Blind Faith's one and only North American tour consisted of just 2 dozen dates between the opening show on July 12 at Madison Square Garden and the closing concert on August 24 in Honolulu. As most folks know, by the tour's conclusion, Clapton had already mentally left the band. He was spending more time with opening act Delaney and Bonnie than his Blind Faith band mates. Since the tour was so short, quality recordings are hard to find, as evidenced by the tale behind this soundboard recording of their July 26, 1969 performance at the Midwest Rock Festival that took place 56 years ago today. The notes that accompanied this bootleg indicate that it was found by 3 friends back in April 1999 at a book store in Milwaukee. The store had a stack of old cassettes under a glass shelf, with an accompanying note that suggested asking the owners about their collection of local concert tapes. When the trio followed that suggestion, the owners produced a cassette of this Blind Faith show! By the way, the Midwest Rock Festival ran for 3 days, from July 25 to 27. Other bands on the bill included Led Zeppelin, Buffy Sainte-Marie, The First Edition, Sweetwater, Pacific Gas & Electric, SRC and Shag on July 25); Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, Shag, Taste, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, MC5 and SRC on July 26) and Johnny Winter, Joe Cocker and the Grease Band, Bob Seger System, Jim Schwall Blues Period, MC5, Zephyr, Shag, Litter and SRC on July 27.
