In 1986, three of the 4 Monkees - Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Micky Dloenz, reunited for a tour commerating the 20th anniversary of the band's founding. Of course, the Monkees in 1966 were a fictional band starring in a TV sitcom, but by 1967, they were recording and releasing albums, 3 of which went to the top of the charts in that historic year for music. The 4th member of the band, Mike Nesmith, who had generally shied away from all things Monkees since the band split up, actually joined his band mates at a September 7, 1986 show in Los Angeles. The tour was such a commerical success that the original rum was extended all the way to the end of the year. And the press also good things to say about the tour, with US Today writing, for example, that "Critics of the band wouldn't believe it - and they certainly wouldn't have been there to witness it themselves - but The Monkees are a legitimate rock and roll band. They're also entertaining, something that can't be said about some of their '80s counterparts . . .
The Monkees are a hard act to follow."
This soundbaord recording captures the 4 Monkees during that 20th Anniversary tour at August 7, 1986, 3 dozen years ago today.
