*in memory of Jerry Garcia who passed away the previous day

The only time I saw Blues Traveler live was in November 1991, at Madison Square Garden as the lead-in band for Jerry Garcia! That was 3 years before they hit it big with the album "Four", which went to #8 on the Billboard charts. and sold over 6 million copies world wide.  The single from that album Run-Around also went to #8 on the charts.

Speaking on making it big, this post finds Blues Traveler capitalizing on their breakthrough in 1994 by helping headline the H.O.R.D.E festival the following year. This soundboard recordincaptures them in Maine on August 10, 1995, 31 years ago today, and the day after the aforementioned Mr. Garcia passed away. They pay tribute to Jerry with a moment of silence.

While our 1990s and Beyond theme primarily focuses of 1960s/1970s rock acts who have continued to make great music some 4 decades after their debuts, we’re not forgetting about some of the newer artists that came along near the ned of last century. Earlier this month we brought you the Black Crowes and today we have Blues Traveler. Blues Traveler formed in Princeton, New Jersey in 1987. were considered a key part of the re-emerging jam band scene of the 1990s, spearheading the H.O.R.D.E. touring music festival. Fronted by singer and harmonica player John Popper, the band garnered mainstream success in 1994, with the release of their 4th album appropriately titled Four. The album peaked at #8 on the Billboard charts, and yielded the singles Run-Around & Hook, which charted at #8 & #23 respectively. This FM broadcast captures the band on tour in support of Four, on February 16, 1995, 2 decades ago today, in New Orleans.
