The similarities in their style to that io U2 brought on the inevitable comparisons, which may have been simply unfair to a band just starting out. In any event, The Alarm never quite reached the heights U2 did, but they most certainly produced some fine tunes, including The Stand, 68 Guns and Rain In The Summertime (my favorite), just to name a few. The Alarm 1990 - #1: In September 1989, The Alarm released their 4th studio album, entitled Change. The disc paid homage to the group's native Wales, and was accompanied by an alternate Welsh-language version, called Newid. The album spawned the band's highest charting US single, Sold Me Down The River, which reached #50 on the Billboard Hot 100.  This FM broadcast captures The Alarm on tour in support of Change, on February 26, 1990, 28 years ago today, in Germany. The Alarm - 2000-12-09 - Liverpool, UK (SBD)

In 2000, The Alarm released a box set covering all recorded material by the band. It also included sleeve notes to which all four members had contributed. This was the first project where all four original members had contributed since Mike Peters had left the band in 1991. The group also released a DVD collection that year entitled Greatest Hits Live. Following the box set and DVD releases, Peters used The Alarm name on tour to promote both but his backing band was from his solo endeavors in in the late 1990s; Steve Grantley from Stiff Little Fingers, Craig Adams from The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission and The Cult, and James Stevenson from Chelsea and Gene Loves Jezebel. This soundboard recording captures the band during that tour on December 9, 2000, 16 years ago today, in Liverpool.
