On December 1, 1957, 67 years ago today, Buddy Holly made his first appearance of the Ed Sullivan show, as captured in this TV soundboard recording.  Holly played That'll Be The Day and Peggy Sue, and his appearance helped propel the first tune to the top of the charts in both the US and the UK.  Four young lads from Liverpool took notice, and eventually they would change their band name from The Quarrymen to The Beatles (beetles, similar to crickets!). And the rest as they say, is history!

Although Ed Sullivan freely admitted that Elvis Presley really "was not his cup of tea", he shelled out $50,000 to secure the singer for 3 appearances on his show, an unheard of sum for the time.  Presley made his debut on the Sullivan show on September 9, 1956, and the investment immediately paid off, as the program was watched by 82.6% of all US homes with TVs!  Of course, the show is also notorious for switching to close ups whenever Elvis took to dancing, to avoid any "scandal" that might arise form showing the singer as he swiveled his hips.  This soundboard recording captures Elvis during his 3rd and final appearance on the Sullivan show, on January 6, 1957, 63 years ago today!  Once again, the cameras a=only showed Elvis from the waist up, but the screams from the in studio audience made it clear to those watching at home what was going on!
