I've only seen the Stones once, in October 1989 at Shea Stadium, during their Steel Wheels tour, which is fine, since one near death expereince per life time is more than enough. You can read more about that show and why I'm thankful to be still be walking this earth in my book, TEN RULES OF THE ROAD I LEARNED AT MY FIRST CONCERT. 

In any event, this IEM Matrix recording captures the Rolling Stones in Pasadena on August 22, 219, 7 yeras ago today during their No Filter tour. The Stones had launched the tour on September 9, 2017 in Hamburg, the first of a 14 show run in Europe. A second European leg of the tour was launched in May 2018. The Stones then announced a North American leg of the tour which was originally scheduled to begin in April 2019. When Mick Jagger required a heart valve replacement, those dates were all postponed by about 2 months.

I saw David Crosby live 8 times - 6 with CSN, once with CSNY, and the last time, a solo show in 2015 at the Morristown PAC. Crosby was just one of 2 artists (Bruce Springsteen is the other), that I have seen live in at least 5 different decades (1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s).

This TV soundboard recording captures Crosby some 4 years after the solo show I saw, in Washington DC with the Lighthouse Band on August 7, 2019, 7 years ago today. They played tunes from their 2 albums, Lighthouse and Here If You Listen, as well as a CSN classic (written of course by Joni Mitchell), Woodstock!

Like the other members of the Fab Four, Ringo is also a two time inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He first entered the hall in 1988 as a member of The Beatles. His second induction came in 2015, after some extensive lobbying on his behalf by Sir Paul McCartney. That made the Beatles the first and only group to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame and have each of its members also inducted individually. Macca made the induction speech, then joined Ringo, along with Green Day, Joe Walsh, and Dave Grohl, for a 4 song set.  

This IEM recording captures Ringo 4 years after his 2nd induction, in Japan on April 7, 2019, 7 years ago today. Ringo was accompanied by the latest edition of his All Star Band, which included Steve Lukather of Toto, Colin Hay of Men At Work, Greg Rolie of Santana, and Hamish Stuart of the Average White Band.

John Kadlecik - 2019-08-02 - Brooklyn, NY (SBD Matrix)

In 1997, John Kadlecik co-founded Dark Star Orchestra, which was originally intended to be a one night a week Dead cover band. Before long all the group members quit their other projects and began concentrating on the group full-time. The band would often recreate set lists from a particular night in Grateful Dead history.  Kadlecik had an uncanny ability to emulate Jerry Garcia's playing and singing style. So much so, that in 2009, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, original members of the Grateful Dead, asked him to join Furthur, one of the many projects that the former members of the Dead embarked on after the death of Jerry Garcia. This soundboard matrix recording captures John on August 2, 2019. 6 years ago today, doing what he does best -  playing a set filled with Grateful Dead and Garcia classics!

Festival organizers invited the Rolling Stones to play Woodstock, but the band declined. At the time, Mick Jagger was in Australia filling the movie, Ned Kelly, while Keith Richards was staying to close to home with then girlfriend Anita Pallenberg, who had just given birth to their son, Marlon. 

This IEM recording captures The Stones a half century after Woodstock, in Phoenix on August 26, 2019, 5 years ago today. The 2019 tour woulkd be the last with Charlie Watts on drums, as he would pass away just about 2 years later, on August 24, 2021.

As discussed in some posts over the last few days, Ringo did not appear at Woodstock as The Beatles declined (and/or were in no condition) to accept the invitation.  But the former Richard Starkey found his way to the hallowed site exactly 50 years later, on August 16, 2019, 5 years ago today. Ringo and his All Star Band, as captured in this excellent audience recording, played at the Bethel Woods Center For The Arts, located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fai.  In addition to several different concert venues, the Center also includes a museaum dedicated to the !969 Woodtsock festival and the culture of the 1960s.

2019 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - 2019-03-29 - Brooklyn, NY (TV SBD)

The 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inuction ceremony had 2 notable moments.  First Steveie Nicks became the first women inducted into the Hall Of Fame twice.  Her solo career was recognized at this ceremony while her contributions with Fleetwood Mac had been recognized in 1998.  Second, The Zombies were inducted after the longest wait on record to that point - 39 years since they were first elible in 1990!

U2 2019- Back To Back - #1: In 1987, U2 released the album the Joshua Tree, a disc which put the band on the cover of Time Magazine, just the 4th rock and roll act at that time to ever achieve that distinction. Three decades later, U2 went on tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their landmark disc. Each concert on the tour found the band playing the Joshua Tree album in its entirety, which marked the first ever live performances of the tune Red Hill Mining Town. After the original portion of the tour, which encompassed cocerts in North America, South America, and Europe, ended in October 2017, U2 annopunced an extntion of the tour in 2019 that would visit Oceania and Asia This IEM recording captures them during that run, in Japan on December 4, 2019, 4 years ago today. 2010s - #5: Earlier this year, on February 8, 2023, we lost a musical legend, Burt Bacharach who passed away at the age of 94.  Bacharach wrote some of the 1960s most popular romantic tunes, sung by artsist as varied as Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, The Carpenters, Tom Jones, BJ Thomas, and Herb Albert, just to name a few.  In the 1990s, he teamed with Elvis Costello for an album and a tour, even making an appearance alongside Costello playing What the World Needs Now Is Love in the 1997 movie Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. This FM broadcast captures Bacharach, in London, on July 16, 2019, 4 years ago today, perfroming all his classics, with a little help from Josh Stone.  May he rest in peace.

Southside Johnny - 2019-07-06 - Asbury Park NJ (Sirius XM)

2010s -#2: The New Jersey music scene rose to prominence in 1975 thanks to Bruce Springsteen. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were the 2nd most famous act to emerge from that scene. Their first three albums, I Don't Want To Go Home (1976), This Time It's For Real (1977), and Hearts Of Stone (1978), were filled with Stax R&B influences. All 3 discs were produced and arranged by Steve Van Zandt, the group's co-founder, who also played guitar in Springsteen's E Street band. Van Zandt's tune, I Don't Want To Go Home, became Southside's signature song, an evocative mixture of horn-based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics. The band's repertoire also included The Fever, Talk to Me, This Time It's For Real, Love on the Wrong Side of Town, a wonderful cover of Sam Cooke's Having A Party, and the definitive version of Springsteen's Hearts of Stone. While Southside never rose to the prominence that Springsteen achieved, the band remained a vibrant live force in the 1990s and beyond, touring almost non stop! This Sirius XM broadcast captures Southside and the Jukes on their home turf, in Asbury Park, on July 6, 2019, 4 years ago tooday.

2010s - #5: Of all the band's to play the original Woodstock festival, few got as significant a career boost from the festivl as Santana did. Their incendiary performance was featured in the movie and helped propel sales of their debut album, which would be released on August 30, 1969, to #4 on the Billboard charts. Over the next 50 years, Santana would encounter the normal ups and downs of any long music career - periods of chart topping sales and times of commercial failure, band line up changes, and variaiosn oin mudical style. I saw Joe Jackson 3 times in the early 1980s - February 1980, August 1980 and October 1982 - and watched the transition from Angry "Punk Rock" Joe to Sentimental "Cole Porter" Joe happen right before my very eyes!

Tedeschi Trucks -  2019-01-17 - Cedar Rapids, IA (Ex Aud)

2010s - #4: For the Tedeschi Trucks Band, 2019 would reflect Dicken's novel, A Tale of two Cities - "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times."  In February, the band released their 4th studio album, Signs, which would go to #28 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The disc would also reach #3 on the rock album, chart, #2 on the folk album charts and climb all the way to #1 on the Blues album chart.  Yet, around the exact same time, long time band member Kofi Burbridge passed away at age of 57, having suffered numerous health issues, including a heart attack the prior year. Ironically, Signs, which had been influenced by the deaths of TTB band mentors Bruce Hampton, Leon Russell, and Butch Trucks, now became a tribute to the band's fallen comrade.  This excellent audience recording captures the band just weeks before the album's release and Kofi's death, in Iowa, on January 17, 2019, 3 years ago today.

The 2010s - #2: While The Bangles had their heyday in the 1980s, and broke up for about 10 years, since they reformed in 1998, the band has continued to record and tour, right up until  the present day.  In fact, a 3 CD greatest hits compilation, entitled Gold, was released just last year.  This Webcast recording captures The Bangles playing almost all those hits at the KAABOO festival on September 15, 2019, just 2 short years ago today!
