The disc would be the last that the band would record with original lead singer Natalie Merchant. While recording of the disc in 1991, Merchant had informed the other members of the group that she would be leaving with the next 2 years to start a solo career. This FM broadcast captures 10,000 Maniacs on their last tour with Merchant on May 29, 1993, 3 decades ago today, in Berkely. Just a little over 2 months later, on August 5, 1993, Merchant formally announced her departure from the band on MTv.  Note - some research by Alan R (see comments) reveals that this may actually be June 2. 1993 in Los Angeles.  The mislabling may be the result of the fact that there's a Greek Thetre in both Los Angeles and Berekely

Welcome to our first post at So Many Roads featuring 10,000 Maniacs. Only took us 7 years!  The band lent its support to WhyHunger by playing at the 1987 Hungerthon benefit on November 21 of that year. The  show was heard live on WNEW-FM in New York, the premier rock station in the country at the time and a long time supported of Hungerthon. You'll learn more about WNEW in this month's edition of of What A Long Strange Trip Its Been, which we'll post on November 27.
