The Band - 1991-07-30 - Lone Star Roadhouse, NY, NY (SBD)

The Band 1991 - Back To Back - #1: Despite the fanfare surrounding the Last Waltz, including a full length film and a triple disc album, that November 25, 1976 show was not the last time The Band would play live. While Robbie Robertson moved on to a solo career, the other members of the group would work together in various configurations throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The Lone Star Café in New York, famous for a giant, 40 ft high, iguana sculpture that adorned the building, became a home away from home for the re-formed group. The Band played the club on numerous occasions in the late 1980s, often playing 3 or 4 nights in a row, with 2 shows each night, invoking memories of how concerts at venues such as the Fillmore East were scheduled in the Woodstock era.  When the venue closed in 1989, the owners opened a new location, called the Lone Star Roadhouse, and The Band followed.  This soundboard recording captures them on the first of 2 nights at the roadhouse, on July 30, 1991, 33 years ago today.  Download this one, then come back tomorrow for the 2nd half of this Back To Back set.

August's Theme At So Many Roads

Given it was 55 years ago next month, what else could our August Theme be but Woodstock.  We'll feature posts from a host of bands that played the festival, as well as from numerous artists who for one reason or another were invited but couldn't make it! We'll also feature bands who may not have had any involvement in Woodstock, but still played a prominent role in music in 1969, a magical year that featured countless other festivals such as Texas Pop, Atlanta Pop, The Isle Of Wight, and the Toronto Rock & Roll Festival, not to mention such incredible albums as Abbey Road, Led Zeppelin I and II, Tommy, and Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere, just to pick a few.

TTB 2023 - Back To Back - #1: In 2022, the Tedeschi Trucks Band released their 5th studio album, I Am the Moon, The disc was a quadruple album which was initially released in four separate parts over consecutive full moons: Crescent on June 3, Ascension on July 1, The Fall on July 29,  and Farewell on August 26. The album is based on the tale of the star crossed lovers Layla and Majnun, which is hardly surprising given the the lifetime of links both Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks have to the Derek & The Domninos legendary Layla album (see this post for more details on that subject). Dylan 1999 - Back To Back - #2:  As promised yesterday, here's the 2nd half of our Back To Back set featuring Bob Dylan in 1999.  On july 27, 1999, 25 years ago today, Dylan moved from the confines of Tramps to the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. The concert was part of his his 38 show run wanother rock legend, who like him was born in 1941, started as a folk rocker and evolved his sound in a variety of directions over time.  Each night, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon would perform a solo set of music, bridged by a 4 or 5 song set where the iconic duo shared the stage together. Their duet usually produced the highlight of the evening, as the two teamed on Sounds of Silence, with Dylan filling the role once played by Art Garfunkel. This soundboard recording captures Dylan set at the Garden, with Simon on the closing 4 songs.

Just a reminder - one of the 10 choices is KRAKEN, which is what we have been using for a while.  That's the choice labeled KF.

Here's the instructions again - I suggest using CHROME as your browser as I have had no issues that way:

1. After clicking on the link in the post, you'll go to the first mrrored.to page.  Be sure you scroll down to the blue box that says "click here to view file links".  Click on that box.
2. On the next page, is the list of the 10 sites. 
3. When you click on one of the sites on the page discussed above, you'll go to a new page.  Be sure you scroll down to the blue box where it says "Click here to visit the page on name of host you picked".  Click on that blue box.
4. You'll now be on the download  site you picked.  Each has its own instructions.  With SEND.cm an Kraken (KF), for example, just click on the blue box that says download. With GoFile, on the far right, under the word Search, is a rectangle with a down arrow in it - click there to download.

I have found chosing either KRAKEN, SEND.CM Or GOFILE to be the easiest when it comes to downloading. Tough these days to find a a host that works quickly and easily for both uploads and downloads. Or ones that don't have pop ups. Believe me, in 15 years of running this place, I've been through dozens, some great, some awful, and some that vanished overnight, taking down hundreds of links. No host will be perfect for everyone so hoping  a choice of 10 might help!

GD 1990 - Back To Back - #1: For the Grateful Dead, 1990 was, to paraphrase Dickens,  the best of times, and the the worst of times. The band celebrated its 25th anniversay, and was the middle year of a 3 year renaissance (1989-1991) where the band was playing almost as well as it had back in the glory days of the 1970s. That claim is supported by the fact that every Spring 1990 show has been officially released, making it only the 2nd tour, after Europe 72, released in its entirety. Yet, the year was marked by tragedy, as keyboardist Brent Mydlan diesdfrom an overdose on July 26, 1990.  This 3 show Back To Back set feature's Mydland's last 3 concerts with the Dead prior to his tragic passing, starting with this soundboard recording from July 21, 1990, 34 years ago this very day. SSJ & The Jukes 1980 - Back To Back - #1: The New Jersey music scene rose to prominence in 1975 thanks to Bruce Springsteen. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were the 2nd most famous act to emerge from that scene. Their first three albums, I Don't Want To Go Home (1976), This Time It's For Real (1977), and Hearts Of Stone (1978), were filled with Stax R&B influences. All 3 discs were produced and arranged by Steve Van Zandt, the group's co-founder, who also played guitar in Springsteen's E Street band. Van Zandt's tune, I Don't Want To Go Home, became Southside's signature song, an evocative mixture of horn-based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics. The band's repertoire also included The Fever, Talk to Me, This Time It's For Real, Love on the Wrong Side of Town, a wonderful cover of Sam Cooke's Having A Party, and the definitive version of Springsteen's Hearts of Stone. EC 1983 - Back To Back - #1: This soundboard recording captures Eric Clapton on July 16, 1983, 41 years ago today, playing at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater. That Clapton was even on tour in 1983 was a bit of a miracle given his emotional state a year earlier. In January 1982, EC, having finally admitted he was an alcoholic, flew from London to Minneapolis to check into the Hazelden Treatment Center. On the flight, Clapton drank heavily out of fear he would never be able to drink again. Clapton is quoted in his autobiography as saying, "In the lowest moments of my life, the only reason I didn't commit suicide was that I knew I wouldn't be able to drink any more if I was dead. It was the only thing I thought was worth living for, and the idea that people were about to try and remove me from alcohol was so terrible that I drank and drank and drank, and they had to practically carry me into the clinic.” After being discharged, the doctors at Hazelden recommended that EC avoid any activities that would act as a trigger for his alcoholism. A few months after his discharge, Clapton began working on his next album, against the Hazelden doctors' orders. Working with Tom Dowd, Clapton produced the disc Money & Cigarettes, which he released in February 1983. The album’s memorable cover depicts Clapton, cigarette in hand, standing next to a melting Fender Stratocaster guitar. EC said he chose the album title and imagery "because, that's all I saw myself having left”. Despite less than stellar reviews for the album, the single I've Got a Rock 'n' Roll Heart went to # 18 on the Billboard charts.
