Allman Brothers Band - 1990-06-28 - Columbia SC (SBD)

ABB 1990 - #1: As the 1980’s became the 1990’s, the Allman Brothers, who had disbanded in 1982, once again revived their career. The band reformed in 1989, on the heels on Greg Allman’s solo success with the song I’m No Angel and renewed public interest after the release of the Dreams box set to commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary. Original members Allman, Dickey Betts, Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson and Butch Trucks were joined by new members Warren Haynes, Johnny Neel and Allen Wood, infusing the band with additional energy. Moreover, Betts and Haynes gave the band a dynamic one two punch on guitar, reminiscent of the glory days of the early 1970s. This soundboard recording captures the band's rehearsal for the 1990 Summer tour, on June 28, 1990, 31 years ago today.  Download this one, then come back on June 30 for the 2nd half of this Same Tour, Different Show set.

14. Walk Like An Egyptian (fades out)

The Bangles - 1986-06-17 - Berlin, Germany (FM)

The Bangles 1986 - #1: After gaining some recognition in 1984 with their debut album, All Over The Place, The Bangles found themselves on top of the rock world in 1986 after the release of their second disc, Different Light.  The album reached number two on the Billboard Charts, and spawned four top 40 singles, including Manic Monday, which went to #2 in April, and Walk Like An Egyptian, which climbed to the top of the charts for 4 weeks in December.  The band also received extensive airplay on MTV, furthering their popularity.  The ride at the top would only last another 2 years, but it was fun while it lasted.  This FM broadcast captures The Bangles at their peak, on June 17, 1986, 35 years ago today, in Germany at the Rias 2 Festival, just 3 years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.  Their set includes 8 cuts from a Different Light, as well as their 2 best know songs from their first album, Hero Takes A Fall and Going Down To Liverpool.  Download this -- its a guilty pleasure worth having - , then come back on June 29 for the 2nd installment of this series featuring The Bangles in 1986

Jerry Garcia Band - 1982-06-16 - South Fallsburg, NY (SBD+ AUD)

JGB 1982 - #1: The year 1982 was one of the few between 1977 and 1995 when I didn't see either the Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia in concert. I was busy getting my MBA and unfortunately, music took a back seat to my studies. As a result, I really didn't have a good sense as to how well the band was playing that year until a few good on line friends - Wolfclan and AZ Jones - got me hooked on several shows from 1982. The more I dug into the 1982 shows, the more I realized that the Dead and Jerry were at the top of their game that year. This recording - first set soundboard, 2nd set excellent audience from June 16, 1982, 39 years ago today, from South Fallsburg is a perfect introduction to a very under rated year in the long strange trip of the Jerry Garcia Band. Download this one, then come back on June 18 and June 24 for parts 2 and 3 of this Same Tour, Different Show entry.

Grateful Dead - 1990-06-15 - Mountain View, CA (SBD)

Grateful Dead 1990 - #1: For the Grateful Dead, 1990 was a year of triumph, tragedy and truckin on. The Spring 1990 tour found the band in peak form, so much so that every show from that run was officially released, a distinction afforded to only one other tour in the band's history - the legendary Europe 72 run. Then in July, the band lost keyboardist Brent Mydland to a drug overdose.  Undaunted, the Dead brought on Bruce Hornsby and Vince Welnick to handle the keyboards, and continued to play magnificent shows throughout the fall.  Five shows from that fall run - September 16, 18, 19, 20 and October 26 have all been officially released. This soundboard recording finds the band back on their home turf after that legendary Spring tour, just about a month before Mydland's tragic death , on June 15, 1990, 31 years ago today.  Download this one, then come back tomorrow and the next day for parts 2 and 3 of this Same Tour, Different Show set.
