Spin Doctors - 1990-09-27 - New York, NY (SBD)

1992: In August 1991, the Spin Doctors released their debut album Pocket Full Of Kryptonite, but it barely received any commercial or critical notice. It took almost a year before folks picked up on the album, bolstered by MTv playing videos of Two Princes and Little Miss Can't be Wrong. Sales suddenly took off, with the album certifying gold by September 1992, and reaching triple platinum status by June 1993. The disc peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts, and the 2 singles mentioned previously both cracked the top 20. By the way, the album got its title from a line from its opening track, Jimmy Olsen's Blues, which didn't chart when originally released, but eventually cracked the Billboard Top 100 after the band's big commercial breakthrough. This soundboard recording captures the band in New York, about a year before the release of  Pocket Full Of Kryptonite, on September 27, 1990, 3 dozen years ago today.

1990s - #1:  As 1995 began, Howard Stern truly had become "King Of All Media".  His radio program on WXRK 92.3 FM was syndicated nationwide, and he became the first person to ever have the #1 radio show in both New York & Los Angeles. On December 31, 1993, his pay per view special drew over 400,00 subscribers, making it the largest non sporting event pay per view event in history. His 1994 autobiography, Private Parts, went to #1 on the New York Times best seller list. That same year, Billboard named him the Nationally Syndicated Air Personality of the Year, an honor he would receive every year until 2002.  This FM broadcast captures Stern celebrating his 41st birthday and all his success, on January 13, 1995, 27 years ago today.  The Spin Doctors serve as his house band, with appearances by Tom Jones, Willie Nelson and Phoebe Snow.

By the way, the album got its title from a line from its opening track, Jimmy Olsen's Blues, which didn't chart when originally r;eased, but eventually cracked the Billboard Top 100 as after the band's big commercial breakthrough. This soundboard recording captures the band at one of their favorite  venues, Wetlands, about 2 years prior to their commercial breakthrough, in January 10, 1990, 3 decades ago this very day.

ENGLAND - We continue to expand the roster of artists we post here at So Many Roads, today bringing you our debut entry from the Spin Doctors. The band released their debut album Pocket Full Of Kryptonite, in August 1991, but it barely received any commercial or critical notice. By the way, the album got its title from a line from its opening track, Jimmy Olsen's Blues, which didn't chart when originally r;eased, but eventually cracked the Billboard Top 100 as after the band's big commercial breakthrough. This soundboard recording captures the band soon after their commercial breakthrough, during the first European Tour, In London, on October 7, 1993, 27 years ago today.  By the way - we'll have 2 more debut posts later this month!
