As 2019 came to a close, the Tedeschi Trucks Band announced 2 sets of 2020 concerts.  First, they planned a run of shows in January and February, culminating in a 3 night stand at the legendary Ryman Theater in Nashville.  Second, they detailed their 2020 Wheels of Soul tour, which would kick off in June.  Unfortunately, that 2nd run would not take place, as the deadly COVID 19 pandemic disprupted lives across the world.  In fact, this show from the last night at the Ryman, on February 29, 2020, 4 years ago today, as captured in this excellent audience recording, would be the band's last live performance until June 2021.

Led Zeppelin - 1975-02-28 - Baton Rouge, LA (SBD)

When Led Zeppelin launched their North American tour on January 18, 1975, it had been almost 2 years since their last tour, the longest break from performing that the band had taken at that point in their career.  The tour had a bit of a rocky start, as guitarist Jimmy Page was suffering from a broken finger that forced him to use a three finger playing technique during many of the early shows. In addition, Robert Plant contracted a bad case of the flu early in the tour, causing the cancellation of one show and negatively affecting his singing during several others.  The band also needed to work out the kinks associated with incorporating new material from their soon to be released album, Physical Graffiti, into their set list. By February, however,  the band seemed to have overcome all those issues, playing as powerfully as they had at any point in their long storied career. This soundboard recording captures them in Baton Rouge on February 28, 1975, 49 years ago today, from Baton Rouge. When the tour ended, Plant commented that "This has been our most successful tour on every level and I had great time all the way through."

• Our rock hall induction posts may not include every song played at the ceremony, and may not be in the correct order. The material has been accumulated from multple sources (all soundboard or broadcast, fortunately) and historical notes are often incomplete.  So we did our best to give you a flavor of the great music from these ceremonies.
• We've also done our best to be as comprehensive as possible, so you'll even find induction performances from some bands I don't normally post, such as REM, Patti Smith and Prince, just to name three.

The early 1990s were a time of transition for the late, great, Warren Zevon. He was dropped from the Virgin Records label in late 1989, after the commercial failure of the album Transverse City. He caught on with Giant records, and released the album Hindu Love Gods in later 1990, featuring a cover of Priince's Raspberry beret. he then set to work on the album, Mr Bad Example, which would be released in late 1991, and feature the songs Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead and Searching For A Heart. This soundboard recording captures Zevon on tour before his first 2 releases on Giant, in Minneapolis on February 27, 1990, 34 years ago today.

Santana - 1973-02-26 - Philadelphia, PA (SBD)

When Santana went on tour in early 1973, the band and their leader were both going through periods of change. The band's most recent album, Caravanserai, released in late 1973, was departure from Santana's earlier work. The album featured more of a jazz sound, as opposed to the mix of rock and salsa which highlighted prior albums. When the band finished recording the album, Gregg Rolie and Neil Schon both left the group, going off to launch Journey. In the wake of their departures, Carlos formed a new version of the band, with Armando Peraza and Chepito Areas on percussion, Doug Rauch on bass, Michael Shrieve on drums, and Tom Coster and Richard Kermode on keyboards. Santana's personal life also was in transition at this time. He married Deborah King, he daughter of the late blues singer and guitarist, Saunders King. He and Deborah became disciples of Sri Chinmoy, an Indian philosopher and spiritualist. Carlos was given the spiritual name Devadip, meaning the lamp, light and eye of God. Further changes would come later in the decade, as Santana's music would evolve to having a more AOR sound. Through all the change, however, one thing remained constant, Santana's ability to light up a concert arena. This soundboard recording captures him in Philadelphia on February 26, 1973, 51 years ago today.

• Use Chrome as your browser and set up pop-ups to appear in a new tab or window

• Click on the link in the post like you always do.

• When you get to the Kraken page, click on the blue download button like you always do

• If Kraken creates a pop up, it should appear in a new tab - IGNORE THAT TAB

• Go back to the original Kraken download page and hit the blue download button again.  The  download should begin.

I've tested the above on 2 different computers and works every time for me.

Sorry for any inconvenience but finding a free file host is a nightmare. Kraken is the best I've found and I've tried tons, some long gone, like the original megaupload, and some still around, like the always difficult to use, filefactory.

In 1988, the legendary Rat Pack - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr - announced a reunion tour, entitled Together Again. They scheduled 29 concerts, opening on March 13 in Oakland and closing on April 9 in New York City, the last night of 4 in the Big Apple. Unfortunately, after just 6 shows, Dean Martin dropped out of the tour, citing health issues. Dean was clearly in no shape to perform as during his time on the tour he constantly forgot lyrics and slurred his words, Frank and Sammy, in the grand tradition that "the show must go on", continued the tour as a duo. Later, Liza Minnelli joined Frank and Sammy as part of the tour.  This soundboard (or excellent audience) recording captures Frank, Sammy and Liza in Tokyo, on February 25, 1989, 35 years ago today.

Loggins & Messina - 1972-02-24 - Hollywood CA (FM)

Jim Messina, formerly of Poco and Buffalo Springfield, was working as an independent record producer for Columbia Records in 1970 when he met Kenny Loggins, a little-known singer/songwriter who was signed to ABC Records. The two recorded a number of Loggins' compositions in Messina's home living room. Messina then helped Loggins negotiate a 6 album record deal with Columbia. Loggins began recording his debut album for Columbia in early 1971, with Messina serving as producer. By the time the album was completed, however, Messina had contributed so much to the album - in terms of songwriting, arrangement, instrumentation, and vocals - that his guest spot turned into a full time partnership with Loggins. After the release of the duo’s first album in November 1971, Loggins and Messina went on tour in 1972. This soundboard recording captures them at the legendary Troubadour in Hollywood, on February 24, 1972, 52 years ago today.

Bob Dylan - 1993-02-23 - Paris, France (SBD)

During the early 1990s, Bob Dylan took a break from writing new songs. Instead, he focused on recording traditional folk songs that had influenced his musical style. In late 1992, he released the disc, Good As I Been To You, which included covers of 17 folk songs, He followed that with another album of traditional tunes in 1993, entitled World Gone Wrong. Both discs received positive critical reviews. For example, famed critic Robert Christgau gave a B+ grade To Good As I Been To You and an A- to World Gone Wrong. This soundboard recording captures Dylan on tour during that period, in the Netherlands, on February 15, 1993, 25 years ago today. While the set list is filled with Dylan classics, about mid show he plays 2 tunes from Good As I Been To You, Tomorrow Night and Jim Jones.

In November 1971, Traffic released the disc, The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys, the band;s 5th studio album. The album climbed to #7 on the Billboard charts, and went gold by February 1972, thought it would be another 24 years before the album went platinum in 1996! Critical opinion of the album varied. Famed critic Robert Christgau gave the disc a B, though his comments were harsher than his grade, as he led off the review by stating that “These guys waste their talent”. The All Music Guide, on the other hand, pronounced that Low Spark “marked the commercial and artistic apex of the second coming of Traffic”. Pop Matters offered yet another viewpoint, calling it “an album that’s easy to listen to over and over, but one that seldom shows up on “best of” lists.” Today we bring you an excellent soundboard of Traffic from February 21, 1972, 52 years ago today! These productions were later aired as specials on HBO and portions broadcast nationwide on The King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show. One of the more interesting concerts in this series focused on popular female vocalists of the early 1960s and was billed as "The Legendary Ladies of Rock & Roll." The Kinks - 1979-02-17 - State College, PA (SBD)

While the Kinks originally rose to prominence in the mid 1960s; around the time of "The British Invasion" led by The Beatles and The Stones, the band experienced a second wave of popularity in the late 1970s; and early 1980s. The band's 1977 album Sleepwalker climbed to #21 on the Billboard chart in the US, with the title track and the tune Juke Box Music becoming staples on FM radio. Around the same time, new wave acts such as The Pretenders and The Jam recorded covers of Stop Your Sobbing and David Watts, bringing the Kink's music to a whole new audience. A cover by Van Halen of You Really Got Me also sparked renewed interest in the Kink's music. Then in 1979, The Kink's released the album Low Budget, which climbed to #11 on the Billboard charts. Their next album Give The People What They want, released in late 1981, went to #15 on the Billboard charts, continuing the band's string of chart success. This soundboard captures The Kinks in the middle of that strong 3 album run, at Penn State on February 17, 1979, 45 years ago today.

In the early part of 1996, The Black Crowes began work on their 4th album which would be entitled Three Snakes and One Charm. The disc was recorded at a rented home in Atlanta, where the band took up residence for several months to work together on the album. The band kicked off their world tour in support of the album on July 5 in Burbank, 3 weeks prior to the disc's official release. The album climbed to #15 on the Billboard charts and received 3 star reviews from both Rolling Stone and All Music. In March 1996, Sting released his 5th solo album, entitled Mercury Falling. The 11 song disc (which was only 10 in the US and Canada as the track, Twenty Five to Midnight was not included for some inexplicable reason) is considered by many fans as a transitional album for Sting, moving his music away from jazz oriented rock to a more adult contemporary sound. Critics also did not regard it as highly as his earlier records, nor as well as they would rate its follow up, Brand New Day. Nevertheless, Sting launched a world tour in support of the album, which would take him to 4 continents in 16 months. This FM broadcast captures Sting at  the BBC Studios in London on February 15, 1996, 28 years ago today, and about a month before the release of Mercury Falling, playing a set of old favorites that concludes with Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot, a track from the upcoming album.

When your debut album goes to #3 on the Billboard charts, and wins 3 Grammys, as Tuesday Night Music Club did, you've established quite a standard for future releases. For Sheryl Crow, however, that hardly seemed to be an issue. In 1996, her self-titled second disc went to # 6 on the charts, earned her 2 more Grammys, and included such hits as Everyday Is A Winding Road, If It Makes You Happy and Hard To Make A Stand. The album also received significant critical acclaim. For example, the Village Voice ranked it at #26 in its list of the best albums of 1996. Rolling Stone selected it as one of the essential albums of the 1990s while also naming it the 44th greatest album of all time by a female artist. This soundboard recording captures Sheryl on February 9, 1997, a quarter century ago today, on tour in support of her 2nd album. While the tape only captures part of the concert, it includes a guest appearances by Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers, who were leading in for Sheryl on this tour.

Opened in March 1871, The Royal Albert Hall was built to fulfill the vision of Prince Albert of a 'Central Hall' that would be used to promote understanding and appreciation of the Arts and Sciences. Standing at at the heart of the South Kensington estate, the RAH would be surrounded by museums and other places of learning. Estimates are that the venue has hosted over 150,000 different events, from classical concerts to plays to operas to movie premiers. In the rock era, Eric Clapton has been tied to the RAH throughout his storied career. Cream played their farewell gigs at the hall in 1968, as well as their initial reunion shows in 2005. In 1987, Clapton played a series of shows at the RAH to open a year, a tradition which would continue for another 9 years until 1996. This soundboard recording captures EC on February 13, 1992, 32 years ago, on the opening night of a 13 show run at the RAH.

In 2003, at the age of 70, an age when countles folks are retired, Willie Nelson continued to record and perform as if he was a half century younger. His duet with Toby Keith, "Beer for My Horses",  topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts for six consecutive weeks while the accompanying video won the award for "Best Video" at the 2004 Academy of Country Music Awards. A USA Network television special celebrated Nelson's 70th birthday, with special guests Ray Charles, Kenny Chesney, Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello, Norah Jones, Toby Keith, Diana Krall, John Mellencamp, Leon Russell, Paul Simon and ZZ Top, just to name a few!! Nelson also appeared on Ringo Starr's 2003 album, Ringo Rama, adding vocals on the tune "Write One for Me".  This sounboard recording captures Willie at the start of that momentous year, in San Francisco, on February 12, 2003, 21 years ago today.

The Byrds - 1971-02-11 - Bridgewater, MA (SBD)

On September 14, 1970, The Byrds released the album Untitled, a double disc featuring both live and studio material. The disc was a critical and commercial success, being heralded as a return to form for the band. The line-up for the album, original member Roger McGuinn alongside Clarence White, Gene Parsons and Skip Battin, would turn out to have the longest tenure of any configuration of The Byrds.  They had also begun to build a reputation for stellar live performances.  This soundboard recording catures the Byrds just a few months after the release of Untitled, in Chicago on February 11, 1971, 54 years ago today. On February 11, 2007, The Police reunited, after being apart for almost 20 years, for a performance at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. As they took the stage for the Grammy’s, the trio proclaimed "Ladies and gentlemen, we are The Police, and we're back!” The next day, at a press conference at the Whisky a Go Go, they announced they would launch a world tour starting in Vancouver ion May 28. The tour would last well over a year, with the final show played held on August 7, 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Police sold 3.7 million tickets and grossed $358 million during their reunion sojourn, making it the third-highest-grossing tour of all-time at its conclusion. The Beatles - 1964-02-09 - New York, NY (SBD)

Perhaps the most significant moment in rock & roll history transpired 60 years ago today, on February 9, 1964, when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show for the very first time. A nation weary and shocked by the assassination of President Kennedy needed to be uplifted, and The Beatles did that and more. An estimated 73 million Americans tuned into that broadcast, and after 5 songs, which could barely be heard over the screams of the teenage girls who packed the audience, music, TV and pop culture were transformed forever. Beatlemania, The British Invasion, stadium sized rock concerts, album oriented rock, new fashion trends and hairstyles, TV as a major promotional vehicle for reaching the masses and countless other revolutions followed in the wake of the Beatles appearance on the Sullivan show. The band would appear twice more in February, on the 16th and the 23rd, once in May 1964, and then again in September 1965 (a month after the historic Shea Stadium show highlighted in an earlier post), their last live appearance. The Beatles continued to work with Ed Sullivan from 1966 and 1970, however, replacing live performances with filmed promotional clips of their new songs, the first ever music videos, years prior to the launch of MTV! Those videos included Paperback Writer, Rain, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields Forever, Hello Goodbye, Two Of Us and Let It Be. This soundboard captures that first live appearances on Ed Sullivan Show, which is frequentlly refered to as "the night that changed America."  Download it and relive history.
