Led Zep 1980 - Back To Back - #1: Unlike the massive stadium tours that Led Zep had embarked on in the late 1970’s, their 1980 European run consisted of just 14 shows in smaller venues. The set list incorporated 3 songs from their 1979 album In Through The Out Door - Hot Dog, All Of My Love and In The Evening - as well as the first performance of Train Kept A-Rollin since 1969. The tour, tragically, would be Led Zep's last ride together, as John Bonham would die from alcohol abuse just about 2 months after the end of the run. This soundboard recording captures the band in Zurich on June 29, 1980, 44 years ago today.  Download this one, the come back tomorrow  for the 2nd half of this Back To Back Set.

Hornsby 1996 - Back To Back - #1:  When Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995, the Grateful Dead's long strange 3 decade trip came to an unexpected end. The members of the band decided, at least temporarily, not to continue to play together out of respect for Jerry. They would change their minds in 1998 and reform as The Other Ones, and later play as the Dead and now as Further. In 1996 and 1997, however, they took a different approach to touring. The Further Festival made the rounds in the summer of those 2 years, a collection of bands with links to Dead, such as Bob Weir's Ratdog, Mickey Hart's Planet Drum, kindred spirits Hot Tuna and former GD keyboardist, Bruce Hornsby, just to name a few. This soundboard recording captures Hornsby in Noblesville during the 1996 Furthur Festival on June 28, 1996, 28 years ago today. Download this one, then come back tomorrow part 2 of this Back To Back set. NOTE: Both Hornsby shows are testing a mirror link site with 10 different download options including Kraken (KF).  Let me know how its working.

Crenshaw 1983 - Back To Back - #1: This FM broadcast captures the under rated and under appreciated Marshall Crenshaw on June 27, 1983, 41 years ago today, live in New Haven, CT. By the way, some of the notes and the artwork with this bootleg gave the date as 8-27, but a check of the official Marshall Crenshaw website revealed that he was in Los Angeles that day. He was in New Haven, CT, however, on 6-27, leading in for U2! This show features tunes from Crenshaw’s 2nd album, Field Day, including Whenever You're On My Mind, One Day With You, Monday Morning Rock, and Try. By the way, if anyone thinks that I might sing the praises of Mr. Crenshaw just a little too loudly, I ask that you read this piece by Robert Christgau, the dean of American rock critics. In that article, he calls Crenshaw's first 2 albums perfect. Download this show, see if you agree with the legendary Mr. Christgau's assessment, then stop back tomorrow for the 2nd half of this Back to Back set.

GD 1976 - Back To Back - #1: In October 1974, the Grateful Dead played their "farewell concerts" at Winterland in San Francisco, 5 nights of impassioned music that many Dead Heads thought might be the last tine they would see their beloved band.  The band taped the shows for a live album (the double disc Steal Your Face, which hardly did justice to their performances) and a full length movie (The Grateful Dead movie, which was a far more fitting monument to those 5 concerts).   While the Dead stayed away from touring in 1975, playing only 4 shows, the band members were busy with a host of other projects.  They recorded the album Blues for Allah, which included The Music Never Stopped and the Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower segue.  Jerry Garcia recorded the album Reflections, and toured with his own band, while Bob Weir joined up with the band, Kingfish.  Garcia also spent countless hours directing production of the aforementioned Grateful Dead movie, which was released to critical acclaim in 1977. Phil Lesh, along with keyboardist Ned Lagin, released an album of improvisational electronic music, titled Seastones.  While the band members kept busy, they all knew that nothing was as fulfilling as playing live.  So in June 1976, the band launched their first tour in over 19 months and Dead Heads rejoiced. This soundboard recording captures the band in Chicago during that return tour, on  June 26, 1976, 4 dozen years ago today. Download this one, then stop back the next 3 days for the rest of theis Back To Back set.

Mirror Site - Continued Testing & Some More Notes

For the most part, I've gotten very good feedback about the mirror site though there have been some glitches.  As such, we'll continue to test it over the next few weeks.

Just a reminder - one of the 10 choices is KRAKEN, which is what we have been using for a while.  That's the choice labeled KF.

Here's the instructions again - I suggest using CHROME as your browser as I have had no issues that way:
  1. After clicking on the link in the post, you'll go to the first mrrored.to page.  Be sure you scroll down to the blue box that says "click here to view file links".  Click on that box.
  2. On the next page, is the list of the 10 sites.  I have found Kraken (KF), Send.cm and GoFile to be the easiest and fastest.
  3. When you click on one of the sites on the page discussed above, you'll go to a new page.  Be sure you scroll down to the blue box where it says "Click here to visit the page on name of host you picked".  Click on that blue box.
  4. You'll now be on the download  site you picked.  Each has its own instructions.  With SEND.cm an Kraken (KF), for example, just click on the blue box that says download. With GoFile, on the far right, under the word Search, is a rectangle with a down arrow in it - click there to download.
Hope that all helps. Tough these days to find a a host that works quickly and easily for both uploads and downloads. Believe me, in 15 years of running this place, I've been through dozens, some great, some awful, and some that vanished overnight, taking down hundreds of links. No host will be perfect for everyone so hoping  chocie of 10 might help!

Here's just a sample of what folks are saying about TEN RULES OF THE ROAD I LEARNED AT MY FIRST CONCERT:

- "As a fan of rock shows myself, this book written by a fellow fan was fun to read, and reminded me of many of my own long-forgotten concert stories. Definitely recommended."

-"Insightful, poignant and just plain joyful."

- "Truly a book for music fans of the 70s onward. Love the personal thoughts of sharing the music with his wife and kids."

 - It was a lot of fun to hear about the author's experiences from the time of his first concert to sharing those experiences with his teenage boys. There is a lot of truth in his "rules"

 - "The book is well-written and a fun reminder of my younger days. Just an enjoyable read!"

 - "A hero for our times - he sees great shows, learns about life, and gets the girl. What's not to like?"

 - "The author takes you on a tale of wonder through the ups and downs of going to concerts."

- "I would recommend this book for anybody who loves live music - especially those, like me, who enjoy the anticipating and reliving almost as much as actually being at the concert."

 - "I've got to say that Speedy's book is a little known gem and a real joy to read... the author's genuine love of live music comes through wonderfully."

 - "Excellent account of the rock concert experience from 1976 to today. Very well written and extremely entertaining."

- "This is a very entertaining and enjoyable book... you can pick it up, read a chapter, put it down, and come back to it again and again. If you're a music fan, especially of live performances, I highly recommend this book."

- "Great for anyone who loves live music... Lots of fun anecdotes and details that really make you feel like you're sitting with someone, listening to stories about concerts."

- "It's a love letter to live music."

- "If you grew up in the 1960s or 1970s and enjoyed going to rock concerts, then Speedy's story is your story. This tale reminds you of the best and worst parts of attending concerts, and captures the magic of those moments when the music was truly transcendent. Well written, engaging and filled with truth is stranger than fiction moments, Ten Rules is a must read for any rock music fan."
