I saw David Crosby live 8 times - 6 with CSN, once with CSNY, and the last time, a solo show in 2015 at the Morristown PAC. Crosby was just one of 2 artists (Bruce Springsteen is the other), that I have seen live in at least 5 different decades (1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s).
This TV soundboard recording captures Crosby some 4 years after the solo show I saw, in Washington DC with the Lighthouse Band on August 7, 2019, 7 years ago today. They played tunes from their 2 albums, Lighthouse and Here If You Listen, as well as a CSN classic (written of course by Joni Mitchell), Woodstock!
2010s - #3: David Crosby and Venice, a band from Santa Monica, teamed up on several occaisions to play the "For The Arts" Benefit" at Santa Monica High School. While the set list featured all CSN songs, Crosby only sang lead on the tunes he had written. Members of Venice took the lead vocals on the other songs, such as Ohio and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, with Croz providing harmonies. This spound board recording captured them Crosby and Venic at the 2011 benefit, on March 5, 2011, 15 years ago today. Note: With thanks to Albums That Should Exist for the orginal post.

Croz 1982 - Back To Back - #1: Whe David Crosby took the stage in Portland on March 12, 1982, 43 years ago today as captured in this soundboard recording, he was about a month away from the start of a period that almost cost him both his career and his life. In April 1982, Crosby was arrested and would later spend nine months in prison in Texas on a variety of drug and weapons charges. The in 1985, he was arrested again, this time for a hit-and-run incident, as well as possession of a concealed pistol and drug paraphernalia. Crosby would again spend time behind bars, where he finally got sober. In May 1987, Crosby sent a letter to the judge who senteneced him, thanking him for saving his life and promsing not to be back in his courtroom. In May of 1993, David Crosby released his third solo album, entitled Thousand Roads. The disc featured a who's who of rock legends supporting Crosby including Phil Collins, Jeff Pevar, Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench, Jimmy Webb, Graham Nash, Jackson Browne, Marc Cohn, Jeff Porcaro, Andy Fairweather Low, Paul (Wix) Wickens, Russ Kunkel, & Stephen Bishop. Despite the star studded cast, the album did not sell well and received less than stellar reviews, with Robert Cristgau, for example, grading it as a C minus. That didn't stop Crosby from hitting the road in support of the disc. This soundboard recording captures him in Hawaii on December 28, 1993, 31 years ago today He gets some help near the end of the set from 2 of his Thousand Roads collaborators, Graham Nash and Russ Kunkel, as well as from his opening act, Nicolette Larson.
On August 18, 1969, 55 years ago today, even as the Woodstock Festival was finishing up, a half a day or so late due to the endless technical and weather difficluties that plagued the event, Dick Cavett was taping his televsion show celebrating the gathering that was "half a million strong". Jefferson Airplane, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Joni Mitchell gathered in Cavett's New York studio to discuss the event and play a little music. Stills and Crosby came straight from Woodstock to the taping, still wearing the same mud covered clothes they perfromed in. Joni Mitchell never made it to the festival, unfortunately. Her manager, nervous she'd never get to Woodstock and then get back in time for the Cavett show, which would mean she'd miss her first national television appearance, convinced her not to go. Incredibly, she'd later write the tune Woodstock about the event, turning her disappointment into a near perfect depiction of the festival. Jimi Hendrix also was supposed to be on the show, but since he had to perform at Woodstock on the morning of August 18 due to the aforementioned delays, he had to cancel. This soundboard recording captures that historic Cavett show in its entirety - the music and the conversation. 1980s - #6: For David Crsoby, the year 1989 was quite an eventful one. Early in the year, he found himself on the road with Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman reunited as The Byrds. The tour was part of a failed effort to retain the rights to the name The Byrds, as courts sided against them and for another former Byrd, Michaleel Clark, in a series of legal disputes. Late in the year, Crosby was back on the road with CSN, part of tour to commerate the band's appearance 20 years prior, alongside Neil Young, at Woodstock. In between, Crosby palyed a series of solo shows. This FM broadcast captures him during that solo run, in Minnesota, on April 26, 1989, 35 years ago today.

This soundboard recording captures Crosby in Germany on July 29, 1998, 2 dozen years ago today fronting CPR, a new band formed in 1996 that included Jeff Pevar on guitar and James Raymond, Crosby's son, on piano. The first song that father and son co-wrote was entitled Morrison, which expressed Crosby's feelings about the portrayal of Jim Morrison in the movie The Doors.
As mentioned in our Byrds post earlier this month, David Crosby used his appearance at Monterey Pop to put the final nail in the coffin of his relationship with The Byrds. His politcial rantings and decision to sit in with Buffalo Springfield directly led to Roger McGuinn throwing him out iof the band. As Crosby said when I saw him soloin 2015, "many peole think I got fired from The Byrds for writing the somg Triad beacuse of its controversial nature. That's not true. I got fired becaue Ii was an A-hole.". In any event, this FM broadcast cpatures Crosby 21 years after the Summer of Love, and 2 dozen years ago this very day, in the Netherlands. on June 28, 1998,

David Crosby 2003 - Back To Back - #1: In March 2003, CSN launched a large scale North American tour that ran until the end of October, culminating with 2 shows at the Bridge School Benefit with long time comptariot Neil Young. Before that run got under way, David Crosby went out on a brief tour with his new band, CPR, which included Jeff Pevar on guitar and James Raymond, Crosby's son, on piano. 1980s - #1: In January 1989, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby and Chris Hillman reunited to tour as The Byrds. Their motivation, however, was not musical, but rather legal and financial. Another former Byrd, Michael Clarke, has been touring the country using the Byrds name, and had even applied for a trademark. To counter Clarke, the trio also applied to trademark the name The Byrds, filed a lawsuit gains Clarke citing deceptive business practices, and used the tour to demonstrate they had not surrendered the use of the name The Byrds to anyone else. While the trio's tour was a resounding musical success, it failed to convince the court to side in their favor, as Clarke gained complete ownership of the name The Byrds. This high quality audience captures McGuinn, Crosby and Hillman during that 1989 tour, on January 4, 1989, 33 year ago today. By the way, all 5 original Byrds (Gene Clark being the 5th) put their differences aside in January 1991 to perform at the band's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Sadly, it would be the last time the 5 original members performed together, as Michael Clarke and Gene Clarke passed away within the next 2 years. Of course, those induction ceremonies opened other wounds, as long time Byrds members such as Clarence White, Gene Parsons and Skip Battin, just to name 3, were completely ignored by the Rock Hall of Fame.
1970 - In December 1970, while helping David Crosby record the album If Only I Could Remember My Name, at Wally Heider's Studio in San Francisco. members of the Grateful Dead decided to team up with him for a few live performances.Billed officially as Jerry Garcia and Friends, though the collaboration is better known by the unofficial title of David & The Dorks, Garcia, Crosby Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzman played 5 shows together, 4 at the Matrix in San Francisco (on 12/14. 12/15, 12/16 and 12/20) and one at Pepperland in San Rafael (on 12/21). For years, Mickey Hart was listed as the drummer (even the artwork notes that) but both the Jerry Garcia site and Lost Live Dead indicate it was actually Kreutzman who took part. Whichever Dead drummer was on stage, this soundboard recording captures the quartet on December 20, 1970, 51 years ago today!
This FM Broadcast features David Crosby on May 2, 1981, 4 decades ago today, in New Paltz NY, probably on the campus of SUNY New Paltz, along with Dave Mason. That said, I’ve searched high and low, and cannot find any additional information about either this show or any other show on this tour. If anyone out there can provide some additional detail, I’d greatly appreciate it. In the interim, download this one and enjoy this unusual, and somewhat obscure pairing!

Crosby's band for the tour wincluded James Raymond on keyboards, Mai Agan on bass, Steve DiStanislao on drums, Jeff Pevar on guitar and Michelle Willis on keys and vocals. This soundboard recording captures him during that run in Boulder on May 7, 2017, 3 years ago today.

Tower Theater - #1: Built in 1927 as a movie theater and venue for vaudeville acts, the 3000 seat Tower Theater became one of the Philadelphia area's premier concert venue in the early 1970s. The Tower's first concer4t was Dave Mason on June 14, 1972, after which the Philadelphia Daily News proclaimed that "Philly Finally has its Fillmore", making reference to New York's famed Fillmore East. (Ironically, Philadelphia actually now has a concert hall name The Fillmore, which opened just a few years ago in October 2015!) Acts that played the Capitol in Passaic often made the Tower a stop on their tour, and vice versa. And while the Capitol is now just a memory, the tower continues to attract first rate rock talent, having recently hosted shows by Steve Winwood and The Pretenders. This soundboard recording captures David Crosby at the Tower on April 8, 1989, 29 years ago today.
