Like the other members of the Fab Four, Ringo is also a two time inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He first entered the hall in 1988 as a member of The Beatles. His second induction came in 2015, after some extensive lobbying on his behalf by Sir Paul McCartney. That made the Beatles the first and only group to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame and have each of its members also inducted individually. Macca made the induction speech, then joined Ringo, along with Green Day, Joe Walsh, and Dave Grohl, for a 4 song set.  

This IEM recording captures Ringo 4 years after his 2nd induction, in Japan on April 7, 2019, 7 years ago today. Ringo was accompanied by the latest edition of his All Star Band, which included Steve Lukather of Toto, Colin Hay of Men At Work, Greg Rolie of Santana, and Hamish Stuart of the Average White Band.

Paul McCartney - 2024-12-19 -  London, UK (IEM)

I've seen Sir Paul 9 times, and the last 4, in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2022, I went with both my wife and my twin boys. We started that run back in June 2015, a Father's Day show in Philadelphia, which was also the first concert my boys ever went to! The set list that night included the tune Macca wrote for Destiny, one of my boy's favorite video games. We followed that up with an August 7, 2016 show at Giants Stadium on what what would have been my Dad's 83rd birthday had he not passed away in 2012. Sir Paul broke out Birthday that night, the first time I had ever heard him play that song live. Then on September 15, 2017, at Madison Square Garden on my Mom's 85th birthday, Paul entertained us as almost no other performer can, telling stories, paying tribute to lost friends and lovers, playing over 40 songs scanning almost 60 years of musical history. He played Jet, my boy's favorite McCartney tune, a song that had been missing from the 2 previous shows they attended.  And then, as I mentioned in my Springsteen post earlier this month, he brought Bruce and Miami Steve on stage for what turned out to be back to back renditions of I Saw her Standing There.  Most recently, just a few weeks ago on July 16, 2022, the 4 of us Saw Sir Paul at Met Life stadium, just 2 days before his 80th birthday!  Another 3 hour masterpiece, and another guest appearance by Springsteen, for 2 songs, his Glory days and The Beatles I Wanna Be Your Man, plus he sat in during the closing Abbey Road medley to add some blistering guitar work. The encore included a 2nd guest appearance, by a virtual John Lennon.  using footage from the Rooftop Concert, Paul and John did a virtual duet on I've Got A Feeling, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Given Sir Paul's age, I may never get to see him live again, but the memories, especially from the last 4 shows, will last forever. 

This soundboard recording captures Sir Paul in London on December 19, 2024, just 1 year ago today.  Macca had gone back out of the road in late 2024, bringing the Got Back tour to South America, where he had also played in 2023, and to Europe, his first shows on that continent since before the pandemic. This show brought the tour to end in grand fashion, with a performance of Wonderful Christmastime accompanied by The Capital Choir, a guest appearance by Ronnie Wood on Get Back, the reappearnce of his bass guitar that had been missing for 50 years, and finally, a reunion with his fellow surviving Beatle, Ringo Starr on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) and Helter Skelter! By the way, I included an audience recording of the show as well as it contains the soundcheck for the show, which was not part of the IEM recording.

1990s - #6: In 1989, Ringo launched the first version of his All Starr Band tour, an ensemble where, as Ringo put it it, "everybody on stage is a star in their own right". While Ringo headlined these tours, singing his Beatles and solo material, his supporting band consisted of major players in the rock world, who would perform their own tunes, often with Ringo on drums. The 1997 edition of the All Starr's included Peter Frampton, Gary Brooker, Jack Bruce, Simon Kirke, and Mark Rivera. This soundboard recording captures Ringo and his friends on May 30, 1997, 28 years ago today, in Detroit.

As discussed in some posts over the last few days, Ringo did not appear at Woodstock as The Beatles declined (and/or were in no condition) to accept the invitation.  But the former Richard Starkey found his way to the hallowed site exactly 50 years later, on August 16, 2019, 5 years ago today. Ringo and his All Star Band, as captured in this excellent audience recording, played at the Bethel Woods Center For The Arts, located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fai.  In addition to several different concert venues, the Center also includes a museaum dedicated to the !969 Woodtsock festival and the culture of the 1960s.

1988 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - 1988-01-20 - New York, NY (SBD)

The 1988 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class was one for the ages -  The Beach Boys, The Drifters, the Supremes, Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, Les Paul, Berry Gordy Jr. and arguably the greatest American and British rock performers of all time, Bob Dylan and The Beatles, respectively. But Paul McCartney skipped the ceremeony as he was in legal battles with his ex-band mates at the time. Diana Ross also did not attend and everyone wished Mike Love had made the same decision, as his acceptance speech raged against everyone and everything, including his fellow inductees.  Fotunately, the speeches ended and the music began, and it transcended any tension that may have still lingered. George and Ringo took the stage for a rendition of I Saw Her Standing There, backed by Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger,  Dylan played All Along The Watchtower and Like A Rolling Stone, supported by Harrison on the first and Springsteen on the second.  Elton John played a medley of 1950s tunes and Fogerty sang Born On The Bayou. And the night ended with Jagger and Springsteen sharing vocals on (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.

The Beatles 1967 masterpiece, Sgt Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band, included what just might be the the song that most people think of immediately when they think about Ringo Starr.  The 2nd tune of the disc, With A Little Help From My Friends features Ringo on lead vocal, asking questions about life, friendship and love, then providing the answer - "I'll get by with a little help from my friends."  Even after Ringo began touring with his All Starr Band in the late 1980s, that tune remained his signature piece, as evidenced in the excellent audience recording from June 7, 1992, 3 decades ago this very day.  The last song of the night to send every one home happy was none other than With A Little Help From My Friends, a highly appropriate choice given that Starr was supported that evening by artists such as Dave Edmunds, Burtin Cummings, Nils Lofgren, Todd Rundgren,  Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, not to mention his son Zach!

JAPAN - In 1989, Ringo launched the first version of his All Starr Band tour, an ensemble where, as Ringo put it it, "everybody on stage is a star in their own right". While Ringo headlined these tours, singing his Beatles and solo material, his supporting band consisted of major players in the rock world, who would perform their own tunes, often with Ringo on drums.Since 2012, when Ringo began touring with the 12th edition of the All Starr Band, the line up had remained fairly stable, featuring:

ENGLAND -  On October 21, 1984, 35 years ago today and a night after he sat in with Eric Clapton, Carl Perkins was back on stage, this time with EC's good friend, George Harrison.  Clapton also made an appearance, as did Ringo Star and Dave Edmunds.  The concert, billed as Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session was an emotional tribute to Perkin's legendary career.  While this soundboard  recording doesn't contain the entire evening - a few songs are missing - its a still a must have for your collection.
