On October 7, 1979, 47 years ago today, two future 2 time Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductees performed at the Greek Theater for the 3rd annual Bread & Roses Festival, as captured in this soundboard recoring. Graham Nash took the stage and played 5 songs solo. Then, he was joined by long time partner David Crosby for 3 songs to end the set. Nash & Crosby were both inducted to the Hall in 1997 as part of CSN. For Crosby, it was hos 2nd induction, with the first having come in 1997.  For Nash, it was his first, with hi second coming in 2010 with the Hollies.  By the way, their other long time partners, Stephen Stills and Neil Young are also each 2 time inductees.  Stills entered in 1997 with bikth CSN and Buffaloo Springfield, making him the onlhy artist inducted twice in the same night.  Neil also entered the Hall in 1997 with the Buffalo Springfield, and had previously been inducted in 1995 as a solo artist. That made CSNY the only band other than The Beatles to have all 4 members inducted twice.  The irony of that fact, however, is that CSNY as a foursome was never inducted!

David Crosby - 1993-12-28 - Kauai, HI (SBD)

In May of 1993, David Crosby released his third solo album, entitled Thousand Roads.  The disc featured a who's who of rock legends supporting Crosby including Phil Collins, Jeff Pevar, Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench, Jimmy Webb, Graham Nash, Jackson Browne, Marc Cohn, Jeff Porcaro, Andy Fairweather Low, Paul (Wix) Wickens, Russ Kunkel, & Stephen Bishop. Despite the star studded cast, the album did not sell well and received less than stellar reviews, with Robert Cristgau, for example, grading it as a C minus. That didn't stop Crosby from hitting the road in support of the disc. This soundboard recording captures him in Hawaii on December 28, 1993, 31 years ago today  He gets some help near the end of the set from 2 of his Thousand Roads collaborators, Graham Nash and Russ Kunkel, as well as from his opening act, Nicolette Larson.

Stephen Stills & Graham Nash - 1969-10-25 - San Francisco CA (SBD)

1960s - #7:  On October 25, 1969, 55 years ago today when the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane were scheduled to play Winterland, one or more of the opening acts had to cancel. Stephen Stills and Graham Nash were at the venue as they were in San Francisco at the time recording the Deja Vu album with David Crosby and Neil Young, so they filled in, performing a short acoutic set as a duo, as captured in this soundboard recording  This show might be the only time just the 2 of them performed together, sans Crosby. The 2nd song of the night was Teach Your Children, which wouldn't be officially released until March 1970 when Deja Vu hit stores so this might be the first time the song was ever perfromed live. The set ends with Black Queen, a tune Stills had written in hope that the Grateful Dead would record it, though they never did.  When I saw Stills sit in with the Dead, however, in April 1983, they backed him oin that tune! 2010 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - 2010-03-15 - New York, NY (TV SBD)

The 2010 Rock & Roll Hall Of  Fame ceremony featured a list of inductees who truly stretched the boundaries of rock, ranging from Abba to Genesis to The Hollies to the Stooges to Jimmy Cliff.  Genesis didn't perform and Peter Gabriel was a no-show, but Phish, who inducted them, played a set of their tunes. Graham Nash earned his second entry into the Hall as a member of The Hollies, his first having come with CSN. That made CSNY the first band to have all 4 of its members inducted twice (The Beatles would be the second when Ringo was inducted in 2015), though ironically the band is not in the hall! You see, CSN was inducted as a band and Neil Young was honored for his solo career.  Then Neil and Stephen Stills earned their 2nd entries as members of Buffalo Spriingfield while Crosby gained his second as a member of The Byrds.  Jimmy Cliff, who was moved to tears by his induction, performed a stunning set of his biggest hits, You Can Get It If You Really Want, Many Rivers To Cross and The Harder They Come, but unfortunately, it is no where to be found on the web.  If anyone has it, please share!

In 1983, Graham Nash briefly rejoined the Hollies in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary. The group recorded a new album, What Goes Around, which failed to generate any interest or sales due to very weak material and an overabundance of synthesizer sound. The band’s fall tour in support of the disc also didn’t fare well, with many dates having to be cancelled or shifted to smaller venues due to poor ticket sales. For example, this soundboard recording captures The Hollies at Kings island Amusement Park near Cincinnati on October 2, 1983, 32 years ago today, not quite the largest or most prestigious venue in the area. That said, live Hollies shows are hard to find, so this one is a must have for your collection.
