In April 22, 2016, I saw America for the 2nd time, at a show in Morrstown NJ. That was 38 years after that first time I saw them, in June 1978 at the Garden State Arts Center in Homdel, NJ. That's the 2nd longest gap between concerts for any band that I've seen live. (As mentioned in our John Hiatt post earlier this month, 4 decades passed between seeing Pat Benatar in 1981 and 2021 - the longest gap!).

This FM broadcast captures America in New York about a year after the first time I  saw them, in Central Park on June 30, 1979, 47 years ago today. Dan Peek had just left the band in 1978 in order to not only pursue a new musical direction, but also to renew his Christian faith. Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell decided to continue on as America. They're still going strong to this very day!

I've seen Squeeze on 2 occasions - in August 1981 at the South Mountain "Music Fest" - in reality, the side of a hill - and in August 1985, at Pier 84 in New York.

This FM broadcast captures Squeeze on June 30, 1980, 46 years ago today, in Chicago. The band was on tour in support of the album Argy Bargy, which helped them finally breakthrough in the US and had some critics hailing Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook as the new Lennon & McCartney. While that praise was a bit over the top, there’s no doubt that the duo filled Argy Bargy with a host of soon to be classic new wave tunes, including Pulling Mussels (from the Shell), Another Nail in My Heart and If I Didn't Love You.

This soundboard recording captures The rascals atthe height of their fame, in Honolulu, on June 29, 1969, 57 years ago today.  Around that time, the Woodtsock organzers offered them a headling spot of the festival, but they turned it down because they were in the middle of recording a new album!

I saw Eddie Money once, in the summer of 1979, in Central Park.  That said, I only stayed for a few songs, which I now regret.  You see, the only reason I went to the show was to see the opening act, Ms. Rachel Sweet. Her debut disc, Fool Around  became a staple on the turntable (yes - it's that old!) in my college dorm room. Part new wave, part early 60's girl group in sound, the album featured songs such a B-A-B-Y, Wildwood Saloon, I Go to Pieces and Sad Song.

In any event, this FM Broadcast captures Eddie on tour iin support of his debut album in Lexington on June 29, 1978, 4 dozen years ago today. Unlike me, the Rolling Stones had taken notice of Mr. Money, brining his on board to open for them that night.

I've seen Van Morrison 7 times, across 3 decades - the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s - and each time has been unique. Van changes up the set list from tour to tour, and you never know what mood he'll be in for a concert. For example, his September 1990 show at the Garden State Art's Center was a contemplative, introspective performance. In contrast, his April 1992 concert at the Paramount in New York was an upbeat religious celebration. Then again, his 1989 show at The Beacon Theatre was a bluesy affair, with a guest appearance by John Lee Hooker. With Van, you never quite know what you'll be seeing or hearing, which is part of the fun.

This primarily FM broadcast, with some audience tracks intersperrded, captures Van in Italy on June 29, 1989, 37 years ago today.  Unlike the perfromance I saw later that year, Van skipped the blues for a setlist filled with classics.

After not seeing a concert for over 2 years, from July 2019 to August 2021, due to the pandemic, the first show I attended as concert halls re-opneed was John Hiatt on Septrmber 25, 2021 in Morristown. That was 34 years after the first tine I saw Hiatt, in August 1987 at the Pier in New York City. That gap is the 3rd longest time for me betwen seeing an artist live, behind America (38 years bewteen 1978 and 2016) and Pat Benatar (40 years between 1981 and 2021).

This ALD recording captures Mr. Hiatt, backed by the North Mississippi Allstars in Virginia on June 28, 2005, 21 years ago today.  He was on tour in support of his 17th studio album, Master Of Disatser, which had been released just 7 days earlier.

In addition to seeing Neil with CSNY in April 2000, I've seen him on 5 other occasions, 3 solo acoustic shows (1989, 1992 and 199), and 2 concerts with Crazy Horse, in Godfather of Grunge: mode in 1991 and a presentation of Greendale in 2004. You never quite knew what you would get when you went to see Mr. Young.

On June 20, 1996, Neil Young launched a European tour with Crazy Horse, his first series of live shows with his long time backing band in about 5 years.  This soundboard recording capturs him during that run, in Finland, on June 28, 1996, 3 decades ago today.

July's Theme At So Many Roads

For July 2026, we once again bring back an old favorite - our theme will be Back To Back. In other words, we'll bring you bands playing 2 (or more) consecutive nights from the same year. Or sometimes, 2 shows in a single night!

Enjoy the tunz!

Blood, Sweat & Tears Live - Re-Post Folder

In memory of the late, great David Clayton Thomas, who recently passed away, here's a link to a folder of Blood, Sweat, & Tears live shows.  It contains everything posted on this blog, plus a few extras.  I beleive every show features DCT on vocals.

May he rest in peace.

Enjoy the tunz.

Those of you have been long time visitors to So Many Roads know that Marshall Crenshaw is one of my favorite rockers, a musician whose talents, unfortunately, have simply never been appreciated by the masses. Famed critic Robert Christgau has heaped praise on Crenshaw’s first two albums, calling them PERFECT. Trust him - he’s knows of what he speaks! Unfortunately, I've only gotten to see Crenshaw once, at the famed Maxwell's in Hoboken back in October 1996. I was supposed to see him again in March 2020 at the Stanhope House in New Jersey, but COVID cancelled that and its never been rescheduled.

This FM broadcast captures Crenshaw in New Haven on June 27, 1982, 40 years ago today.  He was on tour in support of his debut album, which Christgau rated an A and Rolling Stone gave 4 stars.

34. Knockin' On Heaven's Door

I saw Tom Petty live once, in April 1983 at the Brendan Byrne (later the Continental Airlines, and finally, the Izod) Arena. Nick Lowe was the lead-in band, making for quite a new wave night of music. I've seen Bob Dylan on 3 occasions - with the Grateful Dead serving as his back up band for a set in 1987 (after the Dead played 2 sets of their own!), as a headliner in 1989, and as the lead in band for the Dead in 1995, their last tour before Jerry Garcia passed away.

What I haven't seen is Dylan and Petty on stage together, but that's just what happened in Minneapolis on June 26, 1986, 4 decades ago this very day, as captured in this soundboard recording. Believe it or not, the 1986 Dylan/Petty tour was an outgrowth of two major concert events – Live Aid and Farm Aid. At the end of his set at Live Aid, Dylan said "I hope that some of the money…maybe they can just take a little bit of it, maybe…one or two million, maybe…and use it, say, to pay the mortgages on some of the farms and, the farmers here, owe to the banks…". While that comment angered Live Aid organizer Bob Geldorf, it did help spark the effort to organize Farm Aid. The first Farm Aid show was held just 2 months after Live Aid, on September 22, 1985. Both Dylan and Petty played at that show and struck up a mutual friendship. That led to Dylan inviting Petty and the Heartbreakers to serve as his backup band for his 1986/1987 True Confessions tour. The Dylan/Petty collaboration would later continue in the Traveling Wilburys.

  5. Eddie Money
  6. English Beat
  7. Huey Lewis
  8. Ian Hunter

  20. The Yardbirds
Please note that for all the above we have just re-posted the shows where they headline - not any guest appearance. Some of those guest appearances may be availble via the re-posts we did of Festivals - see below for list!

Use the sidebar where it says LABELS to click on the artists above to be taken to the posts we've put up for each of them.  Then scroll to the show you want and the new link will be there.

These new links, like all free ones, will expire in 30 to 60 days. That said, don't hammer the links all at once - that's the fastest way for the host to delete them for overloading traffic.  Grab a show or two a day, then come back the next day for another couple, and so on.

By the way, if  I missed a show along the way, or posted an incorrect link, just leave a comment below the post and I'll get it fixed.  Been dealing with dozens of re-posted links so mistakes are bound to have happened.

Enjoy the tunz!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the way - here's a complete list of artists whose links have been reposted since December 2025.  Many of the links are still working - there are still over 950 live! Use the sidebar or the search box to find them.

I saw James Taylor for the first time just a year ago, on August 20, 2025, at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.  I hadn't been to that venue in a quarter of a century, since I saw the Go Gos' there in 2000.  The reason - I hate the corporate changes made to the Arts Center. Once a place where for $5 you could sit on the lawn and picnic, now they charge you for everything from early admisson to parking close to the exit.  I put aside my hatred though to see JT  - and it was worth it. He played a set filled with classics under a moonlit sky - a perfect summer evening of song.

In any event, this soundboard recording captures JT on A&E's Love By Request programon June 25, 1997, 29 years ago today. Launched in 1996, Live By Request featured artists playing before a small studio auience where the set list was determined by viewings calling in to the show.

I've seen Los Lobos live twice, on back to back nights in July 1989 as the lead in band for the Grateful Dead at Giants Stadium. Incredibly, the band did not join the Dead on stage either night, but the Neville Brothers sat in during Iko Iko on night 2!

While I went to 50 Grateful Dead concerts, I only saw the late, great Bob Weir solo once, in July 1992 at the Meadowlands Summer Fest, which as mentioned in our Bruce Cockburn post earlier this month, was a concert arena set up in the parking lot at Giants Stadium. Oh the things promoter John Scher did to run a concert and make a buck.

This soundboard recording captures Weir some 8 years later, fronting Ratdog at the Gathering Of The Vibes Festival in Bridgeport on June 24, 2000, 26 years ago today.  Weir and Ratdog get a little help from Les Claypool on several tunes.

Bruce Hornsby is one of those rare artists I've seen as a lead in performer, a solo headliner, and as part of a group. In May 1987, I saw him lead in for the Grateful Dead at Leguna Seca, the only Dead show I attended on the West Coast. Then, between 1993 and 2018, my wife and I saw Bruce as the headliner on 6 different occasions, some shows solo, some with the Range, and some with the Nosiemakers. Then after 5 years without seeing Mr. Hornsby, we went to 2 of his shows in 2023, a solo performance in March and a concert with the Noisemakers  n June! That makes Hornsby just 1 of 7 artists - the others are the Grateful Dead, Paul McCartney, The Band, Los Lobos, Joe Jackson and Bruce Springsteen - that I have seen 2 or more times in the same year. On top of that, we saw him 9 times as a member of the Grateful Dead in 1990 and 1991 combined! By the way, if you like keeping track of those kind of statistics releated to the comcerts you have attended, my book has a chapter filled with them that I'm sure you will enjoy.

This soundboard recording captures Bruce on tour in Hamburg on June 23, 1993, 33 years ago today. Earlier that year he had released the album. Harbor Lights, his first disc without his backing band, The Range. In their place, Hornsby brought in a all star cast of supporting musicians, including including Jerry Garcia, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Phil Collins, and Bonnie Raitt. The disc had more of a jazz feel to it than his previous work, allowing Hornsby and hi guests to play extended jams during many of the tunes. Many of those songs, such as the title track, Rainbow’s Cadillac, Fields of Gray, and Talk Of The Town, would become staples of his live shows for the next 3 decades.

John Hiatt Live - Re-Post Folder

As you know, every now and then we bring you a bunch of re-posts here at So Many Roads where we painstakingly go back to every post for an artist and re-up the links.  Needless to say, that's quite a time consuming pricess and gets to be damn near impossible when we have hundreds of posts for a band.

So today, we're trying something new. Rather than go back and re-up countless links, we're just bringing you a folder filled with every John Hiatt show we have ever posted here (and maybe a few extras as well).

If the response to this is good, we'll try it with other artists in the future!

Grab them while you can as due to space limitations this folder can't stay up forever.  That said, please don't hammer the folder as that will set off alarm bells and may get it taken down by Mega.  Grab a few shows each day, the come back for more the following day.

Enjoy the tunz!

Believe it or not, I've been to 3 concerts by the Go Gos - once in November 1981 at the Palladium, the just a few months later in January 1982 at Madison Square Garden as the lead-in band for The Police, and then, some 18 years later in July 2000 at the PNC Bank Arts Center sharing the bill with the B52s! What can I say - its a guilty pleasure!  When you listen to their first two albums - Beauty & The Beat, released in 1981 which went to #2 on the Billboard charts, and Vacation, released in 1982 which went to #8 on the charts, you simply want to get up and dance. As Nick Lowe would say, its pure pop for now people!

This TV SBD recording captures The Go Gos about a years after I saw them for the last time, in Central Park, on June 22, 2001, a quarter century ago today.

The first 3 times I saw Jerry Garcia, all in the late 1970s & early 1980s, long time song writing partner Robert Hunter served as his lead in. Hearing Hunter live is always a unique experience, as his take on the countless tunes he wrote with Jerry is often so different than how they sound when played by the Grateful Dead.

This soundboard recording captures Hunter in Los Angeles, on June 21, 2003, 23 years ago today.

I saw The Band live just twice, both times in 1985. The first concert, in August at Pier 84 in New York, they were the lead in for CSN. The 2nd show, in October, they headlined at one of their favorite venues, the Lone Star Cafe.

This FM broadcast captures The Band in Toronto on June 21, 1984, 42 years ago today and about a year before I saw them live.  They were leading in for the Grateful Dead at a benefit concert for SEVA. The SEVA foundation, an international health organization, works with local communities around the world to develop self-sustaining programs that preserve and restore sight. Since 1979, rock musicians have partnered with SEVA to raise funds for their work. In addition to the Grateful Dead & The Band, Bruce Hornsby, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash, Country Joe McDonald, Maria Muldaur and Paul Simon, just to name a few, have participated in dozens of shows to support SEVA. (go here for more on SEVA benefit concerts). Just another example of rock and roll working for social change.

I saw him during that period on 2 occasions, in May 1980 and on New Year's Eve 1983.

This FM broadcast captures David right before the 2 times I saw him, in San Francisco on June 20, 1978, 4 dozen years ago this very day.

I've seen CSN on 6 occasions between 1978 and 1992, and then once with sometimes partner Neil Young in 2000! I've also seen Stills in 1979 solo, as well as sitting in with the Grateful Dead in 1983. In addition I saw Crosby solo in 2015. (I've also see Neil solo numerous times but that's for a post later this month).

This soundboard recording captures CSN about 2 months before I saw the trio for the last time, in Mansfield on June 20, 1992, 34 years ago today.
