Bob Seger was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2004, aong with George Harrison, Prince, Traffic, Jackson Browne, and ZZ Top. As mentioned in our Tom Petty post earlier today, the Hall confounded folks by including the Heartbreakers with Petty but ignoring the Sil ver Bullet Band when it came to Seger.

This soundboard recording captures Seger, sans the silver Bullet Band, but with Jason Aldean on October 28, 2014, a dozen years ago today.  The two were filming an episode of the long running show, CMT Crossroads, which pairs which pairs country music artists with musicians from other music genres.

I've seen Willie Nelson live on one occasion, on September 2, 1978 when he led in for the Grateful Dead at Giants Stadium, just the 3rd concert ever performed at that venue. Actually, it was supposed to be Waylon Jennings and Willie, but the former no showed the concert. Willie didn't let that stop him from getting us fired up for the main event with a perfromance as hot at the weather that day.

This soundboard recoding captures Willie in Simsbury, on June 15, 2014, a dozen years ago today. That year, Willie released the album Band of Brothers, which included nine original songs and marked his return to songwriting after a 16-year hiatus. The album topped Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and reached #5 on the Billboard 200.

The tour would travel to Asia, Europe and Australia after the opening concert, encompassing a total of 28 additional shows before coming to a close in November. This soundboard recording captures Warren Haynes at Red Rocks on August 3, 2014, 11 years ago today, playing a tribute to the the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, backed by a full symphony orchestra. The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration concerts were just one of numeorus connections between Warren and Jerry. At many of the Symphonic Celebration shows, Warren played Garcia’s famed Wolf guitar. His tune, Patchwork Quilt, is a tribute to Jerry, mentioning how the Allmans were at Jones Beach the night Jerry died. In addition, from 1999 to 2001, Haynes played guitar for Phil Lesh and Friends. Then in 2004 and 2009, he played with The Dead, one of the several post Grateful Dead incarnations of the band.  Of course, in both bands, he took on the lead guitar parts that once belonged to the one and only Mr. Garcia.

This soundboard captures that historic final bow at the Beacon, the last night of 6 show run.

2010s - #1: The 1976 album Frampton Come's Alive came from out of nowhere to take the music world by storm. With songs such as Baby I Love Your Way, Show Me the Way, and the mammoth 14 minute long, Do You Feel Like We Do, which featured Frampton's distinctive talk box guitar, Frampton Comes Alive climbed to the top of the Billboard Charts, sold over 6 million copies, and was voted album of the years by readers of Rolling Stone. The album was so popular that it was still in the #14 position in the charts at the end of 1977, almost 2 years after its release. The disc that came to define rock and roll in the mid 1970's. FM rock stations began to play more album oriented rock (AOR), as Frampton's album and other similar work came to be called. Other bands attempted to copy Frampton Comes Alive, but unfortunately the results were usually excessive, over produced, and downright boring. Other rebelled against the AOR sound and movements such as disco, punk and new wave emerged. All that, from 1 album. If you want to read more about the impact of Frampton Comes Alive and the dramatic changes in music in 1976, pick up the book, I Hate New Music, by Dave Thompson. In any event, this ALD matrix recording captures Frampton almost 4 decades after the release of his landmark album, in Hollywood, FL on October 5, 2015, a decade ago today.

I believe it was the first time Sir Elton ever appeared at any major US rock and roll festival - if anyone could confirm that I’d appreciate it. By the way, right before Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me, Elton paid tribute to Casey Kasem, who had died earlier that day.

Elton 2014 -  Back To Back - #1: When Elton John took top the road in 2014, his set list was heavy on tunes from his historic double album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. That was hardly surprising since as the disc had celebrated its 40th anniversary just a few month earlier. In addition to well known songs from the album such as the title track, Saturday Night’s Alright, Funeral For a Friend and Bennie & The Jets, Elton also broke out some deep cuts, such as Grey Seal and You’re Sister Can’t Twist! 2010s - 03: In the 1970s, Linda Ronstadt was the Queen of Tock and Roll, a female artist so popular and influential that she was on the cover of Time Magazine. She was first eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995. Somehow the Hall, in its infinite wisdom (or lack there of), waited almost 20 years to honor her. By the time the 2014 induction ceremony took place, however, Linda was unfortunately unable to perform, having been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. In her place, 5 female musical legends - Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Carrie Underwood, Bonnie Raitt & EmmyLou Harris, with a little help from Glenn Frey, who had backed Linda in the Stone Pony's - performed a set of her biggest hits in tribute. This TV soundboard recording captures that historic set, on April 10, 2014, 10 years ago today.   IMPORTANT NOTE - AS OF 8:30 AM eastern time on April 12 - one of our visitors noticed that th eoriginal download folder was missing "Its So Easy" and a 2 copies of Different Drum  That's now been fixed so you may want to download this one again to have the corrected copy.

2010s - #2: In 1999, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inducted Bruce Springsteen as part of a star studded class that included Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Dusty Springfield, Del Shannon, and Curtis Mayfield, just to name a few.  Somehow, in inducting Bruce, they failed to include the E-Street Band, who had been there with him for very recordings that made him a Hall Of Famer. (It was not the first glaring error that the Hall ever made, nor would it be the last, as our post later today will reveal.) The Hall finally corrected the issue in 2014, when the E-Street Band was inducted.  Springsteen made the induction speech, then  joined them for a 3 song set that appropriately included the tune, The E Street Shuffle.  This TV soundboard recording captures that set, from April 10, 2014, a decade ago today.

I've only seen the Stones once, in October 1989 at Shea Stadium, during their Steel Wheels tour, which is fine as one near death expereince per life time is more than enough.  As I've noted sevral times on this blog, it was hard to concentrate on the music as the upper deck swayed uncontrollanly throughout te show, lkeaving us convinced it was going to go crashing down into the levels below it at any moment! That the stadium stood for another 20 years before they tore it down is a miracle.

This IEM recording captures the Stones in Pert, Australia, on November 1, 2014, 9 years ago today,. They get some help on guitar on 2 songs form former Stone, Mick Taylor.

NOTE - testing a new dowbload host wuth this post.  Looks like it has the same pop up issue as Kraken but seems pretty quick.  Please leave a comment with any feedback.

Warren Haynes was recruited by Dickey Betts to join the Allmn Brothers' Band in 1989, which led to a revival of the band's popularity and a dramtic improvemnt in their live performances.  He quit in 1997 to focus on his other band, Gov’t Mule, but returned in 2000, continuing on until 2014. In fact, Haynes announcement early that year that he intended to leave the band, a sentiment echoed by the band's other guitarist Derek Trucks (you'll hear more about Trucks later thsi month) prompted the Allman's to announce their retirement. They would play their final show at one of their favorite venues, the Beacon Theatre, on October 28, 2014, the 43rd anniversary of the tragic death of Duane Allman.

This soundbaord recording captures Warren at Red Rocks on August 3, 2014, 9 years ago today, playing a tribute to the the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, backed by a full symphony orchestra. The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration concerts were just one of numeorus connections between Warren and the Dead. At many of the Symphonic Celebration shows, Warren played Garcia’s famed Wolf guitar. His tune, Patchwork Quilt, is a tribute to Jerry, mentioning how the Allmans were at Jones Beach the night Jerry died. In addition, From 1999 to 2003, Haynes played guitar for Phil Lesh and Friends. Then in 2004 and 2009, he played with The Dead, one of the several post Grateful Dead incarnations of the band.  Of course, in both bands, he took on the lead guitar parts that once belonged to the one and only Mr. Garcia.
