The Jayhawks in 1995 #1: Over the last several years I've been listening to WFUV-FM in New York, broadcasting from Fordham University. A non-commercial station, and a National Public Radio affiliate, WFUV boasts the slogan music discovery starts here." In many ways, the station recaptures the days when DJs had freedom to play the music they liked rather than follow a rigid playlist based on what would sell ads! Go here to see the variety of music they play and if you like what you see, you can listen on your PC.. Former WNEW-FM DJ Dennis Elsas handles the afternoon shift at WFUV, and one of his favorite bands is The Jayhawks. Well, thanks to Dennis, they're now one of mine as well. This TV soundboard captures The Jayhawks on the Jon Stewart show promoting their then recently released album, Tomorrow The Green Grass, on April 6, 1995, 22 years ago today.

Little Village - 1992-04-05 - Denver CO (FM)

Little Village - Together & Solo  #2: When John Hiatt recorded his breakthrough album Bring The Family in 1987, he did it in just 4 days week with the help of Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. In 1992, the four reunited to record an album, calling themselves Little Village. Despite the star power, their self titled album met with little commercial or critical success. As Nick Lowe later said "Little Village was really good fun. Unfortunately, the record we did was no good. I suppose on some level, it worked, but Warner Brothers kind of gave us too much time to do it", referencing how the compressed time frame for Bring The Family had forced the foursome to be at their best! In any event, Little Village went on tour in support of the album in early 1992. This FM broadcast captures them on April 5 1992, in Denver..

Little Village - Together & Solo #1: John Hiatt hails from America’s heartland, being born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. When he was 18, he moved to Nashville, TN, where he began his recording career. This soundboard recording captures him on April 4, 1996, 21 years ago today, on tour in support of his 13th studio album, Walk On, which was his first with Capitol records. Walk On was the follow up to 1993’s Perfectly Good Guitar - my favorite Hiatt disc - and reached #48 on the Billboard charts, just one slot lower than its predecessor. The disc would also be nominated for a Grammy Award, the first time Hiatt had received any recognition from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Hiatt’s set features 6 tunes from Walk On - Wrote It Down And Burned It, Ethylene, Shedding The Document, Cry Love, Your Love Is My Rest plus the title track - and concludes with unexpected but wonderful cover of The Ramone’s I Wanna Be Sedated.

Requests For Reposts - A Reminder & An Update

Over the years, I've done by best to re-post dead links when asked. However, once again, in recent weeks, it has simply gotten out of hand. I have several folks asking me to re-post every dead link for a particular band, or leaving 5 or 6  comments in a row, all requesting re-posts.

While I appreciate folks wanting the music, I simply do not have the time to deal with that volume of requests. If I tried to, I'd never have a chance to post anything new. let alone manage my job, family, etc.

So, if there's a show you would like me to re-post, I'll do my best to get to it.

But if you are asking me to re-post every dead link for a particular band, well, that's something I simply won't be able to do. As such, if I get those type of requests, I'll just be deleting them all.

Also, I will no longer take re-posts requests from Anonymous users.  Most of the time, the issues outlined above are caused by folks who are Anonymous, so unless you have some kind of identity (such as Speedy, or Wolfclan or AZ Jones, or PigStreet, etc), I won't be honoring any requests.  Having an identify enables me to determine who is a frequent visitor to So Many Roads and such folks will get priority when it comes to requests for re-ups!

I know that these policies may be disappointing, but its the reality of the situation as there's simply not enough hours in the day to get to everything.

Thanks for understanding.

CSNY - Together & Alone #1:  After spending much of 1992 on the road, touring in support of his cclimedalbum Harvest Moon, Neil Young took most of the first half of 1993 off, doing just a few very special shows.  On January 15, he appeared on the Tonight Show, playing Unknown Legend and the title track from Harvest Moon.  On February 7, he taped an episode of MTV's Unplugged.  ON March 1,  he played a benefit show for the Children's Health Fund, along with Simnn & Garfunkel. On April 24, he performed at Farm Aid #6 in Ames, Iowa.  About 3 weeks prior to Fram Aid, on April 1, 1993, 2 dozen years ago today, he played yet another benefit.  This soundboard recording captures Neil in Portland, playing at the Ancient Forest Preservation Rally & Celebration. You can read more about that environmentalist cause here.
