Download Tutorial

For those who are new to So Many Roads, here's a quick tutorial on how to download shows from our host, mirrored.to:

1. After clicking on the link in the post, you'll go to the first mirrored.to page.  Once there, scroll down to the blue box that says "click here to view file links".  Click on that box.
2. On the next page, is the list of the possible download hosts. 
3. When you click on one of the download sites on the page discussed above, you'll go to a new page. Scroll down to the blue box where it says "Click here to visit the page on name of host you picked".  Click on that blue box.
4. You'll now be on the download site you picked.  Each has its own instructions.  With SEND.cm and Kraken (KF), for example, just click on the blue box that says download. With GoFile, on the far right, under the word Search, is a rectangle with a down arrow in it - click there to download.

I have found chosing MEDIAFIRE, SEND.CM, HEXUPLOAD, 4SHARED, KRAKEN, GOFILE and RAPIDGATOR to be the easiest when it comes to downloading. Tough these days to find a a host that works quickly and easily for both uploads and downloads. Or ones that don't have pop ups. Believe me, in 16 years of running this place, I've been through dozens, some great, some awful, and some that vanished overnight, taking down hundreds of links. No host will be perfect for everyone so hoping  a choice of 10 to 12 might help!

One note - the mirror site only works for folders under 750 mb.  For the rare times a show is bigger than that, I'll be using Pixeldrain which seems to have very fast upload and download speeds, with no pop ups.

How You Can Help So Many Roads

Every now and then, I get a comment from one of the kind folks who follow this blog asking "how can I help out So Many Roads?" Folks want to know if they can donate or make some kind of contribution to say thanks for all the music we share.

I'm always hesitant to answer as I don't want anyone to feel obligated to contribute. I don't ask for donations, as some blogs do, becase no one is forcing me to do this. I do it voluntarily because a friend once taught me "the only thing better than finding great music, is sharing great music." I can stop anytime I want to if it becomes too time consuming or too costly. I don't think it's right to ask for donations to support something I choose to do.

That said, I'm fairly certaint that the folks who asked about helping mean well, have good hearts, and really do want to give back because they feel they have gotten so much great music from my little place on the web.  So, if you want to help So Many Roads, here's 4 ways:

1. Leave A Thank You: Believe it or not, just a thank you under a post is a huge help.  Those thank you's remind me that folks appreciate what I do here and give me the encouragement to keep it going, even on those days when I wonder why I spend so much time and effort on this blog.
2. Fulfill One Of My Requests:  I have a whole page filled with shows I'm looking for which you can find here. Take a look, and if you have any of these shows, please zip them up, upload them to a host like kraken, workupload, filefactory, etc, and post the download link in the comments under any post. It will be greatly appreciated - and most certainly shared here one day!
3. Buy My Book: As you know, I just updated my book about my concert experiences, called TEN RULES OF THE ROAD I LEARNED AT MY FIRST CONCERT: AN ORDINARY GUY'S LIFETIME OF LIVE ROCK & ROLL. I make about $1 for every copy I sell. Not life changing, but as my dad used to say, "a few bucks here, a few bucks there, and pretty soon you're talking real money." The money I earn gets plowed right back into this blog to buy more storage for the music I share, to occaisionally pay to obtain a show, to upgrade my PC and internet speed to help with uploading and downloading, etc.  If you're feeling generous and could buy a copy, I'd be very thankful.

How We Choose What We Post At So Many Roads

Over the nearly 17 years we've running So Many Roads, I’ve gotten numerous questions on how we choose what to post. I’ve also gotten several requests for certain bands or types of music. Given all that, I thought I’d take a minute to explain how we decide on what to post. I consider 4 things in deciding what bands/concerts to post at So Many Roads:

1. Sound Quality: Basically, no show gets posted unless the sound quality is top notch. Over 90% of what we post at So Many Roads are soundboard or FM broadcasts. When I first started this site, I took the advice of Tunzmaster Dino, from the legendary D&P’s Bootleg Tunzworld, that no one wants to hear a show that sounds like it was recorded in your bathroom with the water running. Sound quality is king. And sound quality should never be confused with file type.  Just because a show is captured on FLAC files doesn't automatically mean it sounds good.  Dino's drunken rant on Guitars 101 on the FLAC vs MP3 debate is the stuff of legends! In any event, while we have increased the number of audience recordings over the years, we do our best to make sure they sound great. Occasionally, maybe 1 or 2% of the time, we’ll post a less than great sounding show for historical or sentimental reasons, but 99 out of 100 times, if not more, we’re bringing you a soundboard or broadcast quality show.


2. The Date: Given that this blog has evolved to feature a "this date in history” approach, the show we post each day has to be from that day! So, if its November 22, then we’ll find a concert from November 22 from some year between 1955 and today. When you see posts such as Concerts From Today in History or some other type of announcement, it means I couldn’t find a show from that day that I felt was worth posting.


3. The Monthly Theme: As you know, each month we have a different theme such as Back To Back,  6 concerts 6 decades, Last 20 Of the 20th, etc. Every show we pick for a given month has to fit into the theme.


4. My Taste In Music: In the end, I post shows that feature music I enjoy. You see lots of shows at So Many Roads from the Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Jerry Garcia, Paul Mccartney, CSNY, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, the Allman Brothers, etc. because that’s what I listen to every day. I know its not everybody's taste, but its mine, and since I run the place, I get to post what I want! And I'll continue to do just that for as long as I keep this place going. Besides, no one is paying for anything here - its all free, so you download what you like, and ignore the rest.  I’m not a fan of heavy metal, grunge or progressive rock, so you don’t see any posts from bands that play those styles of music. I like the blues, but in small doses, which is why you only get occasional posts from artists such as Muddy Waters, Robert Cray or Stevie Ray Vaughn. I’m into live music, not studio outtakes, so you’ll see very few of the latter type of posts here at So Many Roads. I know that my musical tastes may differ from others, which is why I link to sites such as The New JDP, Live Bootlegs, T.U.B.E, Hear Rock City, and Floppy Boot Stomp, just to name a few, where you can often find music I may not post. All that said, we've still managed to post shows from almost 250 different artists! By the way, the number of times I post a band usually reflects how much I enjoy their music but not always. You’d see far more Beatles posts, for example, but unfortunately, there are far too few high quality concert recordings available. Same goes for The Band from the Robbie Robertson era, Rockpile, Marshall Crenshaw, and Derek & The Dominos, just to name a few.
