On September 16, 2003, Bowie released the album Reality, his 23rd studio disc. The album received mixed reviews but climbed to #29 on the Billboard charts in the US, and made it all the way to the #3 spot in the UK. On October 7, Bowie launched a world tour in support of the album, which included stops in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The tour was cut short in June, however, when after a show in Germany, Bowie was diagnosed with a blocked artery that required an angioplasty procedure.  This soundboard recording captures Bowie just a few weeks before the tour's premature end, in Atlantic City on May 29, 2004, 7 years ago today.

In late May of 1968,(the exact date not known though its believed to be May 28 or 29, 43 years ago today or tomorrow), The Beatles gathered at Kinfauns, George Harrisons home in Esher, in the county of Surrey. John, Paul and George recorded 23 new songs by double-tracking them on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. The tunes had been written during the Beatles’ 2 month stay in India from February to April, earlier that year. While most of these songs were eventually recorded for the White Album, several were never released by the Beatles as a group. For example, Junk wound up on McCartney’s first solo album, Circles would appear on Harrison’s Gone Troppo disc and Child Of Nature was would be transformed, by Lennon, using a different set of lyrics, into Jealous Guy. Download this to hear an amazing selection of acoustic demo versions of Beatle classics, all recorded in what may have been of the last sessions where the Fab Four actually seemed happy to be working together!

While I know most folks come for the music downloads (and hopefully the history associated with each post), we also have several special feature pages here at So Many Roads.  You can find links to these right below the coming attractions section near the top of the home page.  These pages are constantly being updated so check back frequently:

• The Artwork links page provides a list of websites where you can find CD covers for your bootlegs. We just recently added a link to a site called Bootlegpedia, that has artwork and bootleg discographies for dozens of bands.
• The Set Lists page provides a list of sites where you can find set lists for past concerts. In case you can't remember what you heard at a show you attended, or want to check if a bootleg you have is a complete show, you may find the answer on one of these sites.We just recently added pages for The Beach Boys and Steely Dan.
• The Rock Links page is a guide to web sites for famous radio and TV stations, important concert venues, historic concerts and festivals, and interesting "best of" lists. Recent additions include links to the Best of The San Franciso Music scene, best of lists from critics Robert Christgau and Dave Marsh, and detailed concert listings for such venues as Filmore East, Fillmore Auditorium, Fillmore West and Winterland.
• The My Concerts page is a complete list of every concert that I've attended since 1976! Many of these shows have been topics for posts on this blog, and I'm fortunate to have recordings of a good number of them. I'll be sharing more of those bootlegs in the coming months.
• The My Requests page lists shows that I'd love to find a bootleg of.  If you know where I can download any of the shows listed, just post the link in a comment.  Thanks!

Once you register, you'll have access to hundreds of bootlegs, as well as a host of resources such as artwork links, discographies, music videos, etc.  And there's a great chat box where you can meet a whole cast of characters who all share a common bond; namely the love of listening to and sharing live music.

Speaking of sharing live concerts, if you have any great quality - Soundboard, FM or Excellent Audience - bootlegs that you'd like to share with others., then that's another reason to visit the community area. There's a board for posting Lossy bootlegs and another for posting Lossless shows.

All we ask is that you:
1) Only post unofficial recordings.  No commercial releases are allowed!
2) Include as much info as possible about the show you are posting - band, date, location, set list, etc.
3) Include the source.  We don't want anyone downloading a show to be surprised by the quality.  Folks need to know before they download if they are getting a Soundboard, an FM broadcast or an audience tape.

From April 30 to May 10, 1965, Bob Dylan played 8 shows in England, which renowned filmmaker D. A. Pennebaker captured for the documentary feature Don’t Look Back. The opening scene of that film is the famous sequence in which Dylan displays and discards a series of cue cards featuring selected words and phrases from the lyrics of Subterranean Homesick Blues. That segment is often called a precursor to the music videos made famous by MTV in the 1980s. In 1998, Don’t Look Back was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress as being a "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” work. By the way, Pennebaker would later film the Monterey Pop Festival, capturing breakthrough performances from Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, and Otis Redding. In addition to spawning Pennebaker’s film, Dylan’s 1965 UK shows were significant for another reason. They would would be his last solo acoustic tour. Less than 2 months later, Dylan would go electric at the Newport Folk festival, and the rest as they say, is history. This soundboard recording captures Dylan on May 7, 1965, 46 years ago today, in Manchester, the 6th show of the tour. Santana - 1971-04-20 - Munich, Germany (SBD) 

In 1970, Santana had an enormous commercial and critical success with the band's second album, Abraxas, which featured such soon to be classics as Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen and Oye Como Va. The album went to number 1, and drew widespread acclaim for its mix of Latin influences with traditional rock arrangements. Then in early 1971, the band added San Francisco teenage guitar prodigy Neil Schon to its lineup, giving the group two dynamic lead guitarists. They took that new line up on tour in Germany in April 1971. This soundboard recording captures Santana in Munich on April 20, 1971, 4 decades ago today.
