Simon & Garfunkel have each individually made efforts to help end hunger in America and across the world.  Simon sang on We Are The World, the US counterpart to the UK's Do They Know Its Christmas,  and is part of the Entertainment Industry Foundation's efforts to end childhood hunger. Garfunkel has supporttted Good Housekeeping's endeavors to eradicate that same issue of childhood hunger.

The Pretenders lent their support to ending world hunger by performing at Live Aid in 1985. This FM broadcast, on WNEW-FM, the same station that carried the Live Aid broadcast in New York, captures them a decade later in the Big Apple, on November 5, 1995, 21 years ago today.

Franki Valli has been a regular supporter of Hungerthon, often donating guitars that were auctioned off to raise money for the charity. In 1986, he was part of Jersey Artists For Mankind, along with Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny, recording a charity album to raise funds to address the growing issue of hunger in the Garden State,

Elton John was  yet another super star who appeared ta the 1985 Live Aid benefit to raise money to fight famine in Africa.  He has supported other causes that fight hunger, from the Lunchbox Program in Africa to the Food Bank of New York City.  Of course, Elton has also used his fame and wealth to support a host of other causes, from establishing a foundation to fight AIDS, to supporting the Rain Forest Foundation, to appearances at Farm Aid and The Bridge School benefit, to performances at concerts to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the terror attacks in New York,

This FM broadcast captures Elton less than a year before Live Aid, in Worcester on November 4, 1984, 32 years ago today.

In 1985, Elvis Costello played Live Aid, supporting the effort to fight famine in Africa. In 2008, WhyHunger  & ASCAP,presented Costello with their annual Humanitarian Award at the World Hunger Year gala.

David Bowie was one of countless rock stars who helped make Live Aid one of the most successful benefit concerts in rock history, as over $50 million was raised for famine relief in Africa. Bowie also supported the Lunchbox Fund a nonprofit organization focusing on education via nutrition by providing a daily meal for orphaned and at-risk school children in township and rural areas of South Africa.
