Tower Theater - #1:  Built in 1927 as a movie theater and venue for vaudeville acts, the 3000 seat Tower Theater became one of the Philadelphia area's premier concert venue in the early 1970s.  The Tower's first concer4t was Dave Mason on June 14, 1972, after which the Philadelphia Daily News proclaimed that "Philly Finally has its Fillmore", making reference to New York's famed Fillmore East. (Ironically, Philadelphia actually now has a concert hall name The Fillmore, which opened just a few years ago in October 2015!) Acts that played the Capitol in Passaic often made the Tower a stop on their tour, and vice versa.  And while the Capitol is now just a memory, the tower continues to attract first rate rock talent, having recently hosted shows by Steve Winwood and The Pretenders. This soundboard recording captures David Crosby at the Tower on April 8, 1989, 29 years ago today.  Download this one and then come back on April 16, 18, and 22 for the rest of this Tower Theater Four Of A Kind.

Jimmy Buffett 2005 - #1:  Each year, when Spring rolls around, our thoughts here at So Many Roads start to turn toward warm weather, sandy beaches and blue oceans.  So, what better way to celebrate that than with some Jimmy Buffett.  In February 2995, Buffett launched his Salty Piece of Land Tour, the name taken from a novel Jimmy authored and released the year before. The book tells of the adventures of a drunken Caribbean island hopper named Tully Mars, who clearly is based in part on Buffett himself. This FM broadcast captures Jimmy during the Salty Piece of Land Tour in Santa Barbara on April 5, 2005, 13 years ago today.  The set list for the tour is notable for covers of Brown Eyed Girl, Everybody's Talking At Me, Southen Cross and Scarlet begonias. Download this one, pour yourself a Landshark, and then come back on April 9, 12, and 19 for the rest of The Jimmy Buffett 2055 Four Of A Kind.

Grateful Dead 1985 - #1: In 1985, the Grateful Dead celebrated their 20th anniversary. Deadheads tend to passionately debate the quality of the music that year. Some feel that the band, inspired by their milestone anniversary, played their best shows of the 1980s. Others don't believe the music was much different from the prior years, and certainly not up to the standard of 1987 or 1989. I tend to lean in the direction that 1985 provided many inspired moments, especially during the Spring run, though it’s clear that by year's end, Jerry was mired deep in a cloud of drugs which would eventually contribute his near death coma in 1986. This soundboard recording, from April 3, 1985,  33 years ago today,  showcases some of that inspiration, as the band opens set 2 with Terrapin Station and plays a host or rarities, including Down In The Bottom, Ain't Superstitious and Spoonful.  Download this one, then come back on April 4, 13 and 14 for the rest of the Grateful Dead 1985 Four of A Kind.

The Police 1980 - #1: In early 1980, The Police were riding a wave of success both in the UK and the US. Their 2nd album, Regatta de Blanc, reached number 1 in the UK, as did the singles Message In A Bottle and Walking On The Moon. In the US, the title track won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental.  The tour also saw the band moving toward the next phase of their career, as the debuted the song Driven To Tears from their forthcoming album Zenyatta Moondatta.  That tune, with its references to global poverty, was the band's first with a political bent.  Unfortunately, this soundboard recording from the band's April 2, 1980 show in Milan, 38 years ago today, is incomplete and doesn't included Driven To Tears.  But, you'll find it when you come back on April 6, 8 and 28 for the rest of our Police 1980 Four Of A Kind..
