Recorded in the summer of 1979, and released on December 14 of that year, London Calling is often hailed as the greatest album of the punk/new wave era. Rolling Stone ranked it 8th of its list of the 500 best albums of all time. Robert Christgau described London Calling as "warm, angry, and thoughtful, confident, melodic, and hard-rocking" and called it "the best double-LP since Exile on Main Street." The cover photo, which features Paul Simonon smashing his bass, a perfect punk rock moment, was shot at The Palladium in New York on September 21, 1979. This soundboard recording captures The Clash on tour in support of London's Calling at the Rettel Festival in France on June 14, 1980, 31 years ago today.

fun fact: i was there then and saw kevin coyne blowing the cure & the clash off the stage ... even being a fan of the both, he was literally elvis presley. not sure if not the band in his back were the rest of the ruts he just recorded a half of "sanity stomp". great day ... only roxy music didn#t came and to my dissapointment UFO wasn#t the band i one loved for their first three records.
