As mentioned in yesterday's post, Jimmy Buffett was part of the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame class, along with such artists as Peter Frampton, Dave Matthews, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, Cher, and Mary J. Blige. James Taylor handled the induction speech. The postumous induction - Buffett had passed away unexpectedly in September 2023 - was for "Musical Excellence", another nebulous category which no one can really define. Afterall aren't all the folks inducted as performers excellent? If not, why the hell are they in the Hall of Fame? In addition, the Hall continued its confusing pattern of "sometimes we do, sometimes we don't" when it comes to backing bands by failing to induct the Coral Reefer Band.
In any event, this FM broadcast captures Buffett in Sacramento on October 20, 2016, a decade ago today. It was the next to last night of his I Don't Know tour, which had begin in May and consisted of 26 dates, including 2 in France. Buffett rarely played Europe, as the BufettNews website lists only 23 concerts total on that continent in his long storied career. France was his favorite European destination, accounting for 19 of those concerts, all in the "City of Lights".

Thanks Speedy, this looks like a really good one! I wish I would have gone to see Jimmy, but every time he came to Vegas, it sold out in moments. Oh well, we have recordings of his shows...
