Black Crowes - 1993-02-06 - Houston TX (SBD)

The Black Crowes released their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, in February 1990. Powered by the singles Hard To Handle, Jealous Again and She Talks To Angles, the disc climbed to the number 4 spot on the Billboard charts. Eventually, the disc would sell over 5 million copies. They followed that in 1993 with the disc The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, which went to #1 on the Billboard charts. Four tracks from the album - Thorn in My Pride, Remedy, Sting Me and Hotel Illness - went to #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, an unprecedented feat. This soundboard recording captures the band on tour in support of The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, on February 6, 1993, 22 years ago today, in Houston.

Bob Dylan - 1993-02-05 - Dublin, Ireland (SBD) 

During the early 1990s, Bob Dylan took a break from writing new songs. Instead, he focused on recording traditional folk songs that had influenced his musical style. In late 1992, he released the disc, Good as I Been to You, which included covers of 17 folk songs, He followed that with another album of traditional tunes in 1993, entitled World Gone Wrong. Both discs received positive critical reviews. For example, famed critic Robert Christgau gave a B+ grade To Good As I Been To You and an A- to World Gone Wrong. This soundboard recording captures Dylan on tour during this period, in Dublin on February 5, 1993, 22 years ago today, While the set list is filled with Dylan classics, about mid show he plays 2 tunes from Good As I Been To You, Tomorrow Night and Jim Jones.

Billy Joel -1990-02-02 - Syracuse, NY (SBD)

In October 1989, Billy Joel released the album Storm Front, his 11th studio album. The disc went to #1 on the Billboard charts, sold over 4 million ciopies and was nominated for 2 Grammys. The disc yielded the #1 single, We Didn”t Start The Fire, which was also nominated for 2 Grammys. Incredibly, Joel would only release one more album of original material, River of Dreams, in 1993. That hasn’t stopped him, however, from selling out concerts as the new century.. In 2006, he sold out 12 shows at Madison Square Garden, a stand which yielded the appropriately titled live album, 12 Gardens Live. In 2008, he played the last 2 concerts at Shea Stadium, before that building was knocked down and replaced by Citifield. In 2014, he sold out 12 shows at Madison Square Garden, one each month of the year! He’s continuing his monthly run at MSG in 2015, with 9 shows already booked (My bride and I are going to the one on July 2, which will be his 65th concert at MSG, breaking the record of 64 held by Elton John!) This soundboard recording captures Billy on tour in support of Storm Front during his first tour in the 1990s, on February 2, 1990, a quarter century ago today, in Syracuse.

February's Theme At So Many Roads

In February, we'll feature The 1990s and Beyond!  That's right, every show we post in February will take place between 1990 and today.  Given that the 1960s generation that spawned rock as we know it often lived by the motto "hope I die before I get old", its amazing how many of those acts continue to bring us amazing concerts in the last part of the 2oth century and the early days of the 21st.  In addition, some new bands emerged in the 1990s that follow in the great rock tradition established back in the 1960s.
