Bruce Springsteen Reunion Tour Trifecta - #1: In 1999, after an 11 year separation, Bruce Springsteen, decided, to paraphrase the immortal words of John Belushi in The Blue Brothers, to put the band back back together. The Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band reunion tour launched in April 1999 and stretched until July 2000. One high point of the tour was a record sold-out, 15-show run at Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. Another was a 10-night, sold-out engagement at New York City's Madison Square Garden, At key points in each show, usually during Tenth Avenue Freezeout and his newest song, Land of Hope and Dreams, Springsteen played the role of preacher, calling on his disciples in the crowd to feel the healing power of the Ministry of Rock and Roll. Another special moment each night occurred during If I Should Fall Behind, a song written while Springsteen was away from the E Street band. With the band reunited, the song became a vow of togetherness, with Springsteen, wife Patti Scialfa, Steve Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, and The Big Man, Clarence Clemons each singing a verse, promising to wait for each other. It was clear that the Boss was glad to be back with his old comrades. This IEM Matrix recording captures the reunion tour near its tail end, on May 7, 2000, 18 years ago today, Download this one, then come back tomorrow and on May 27 for parts 2 and 3 of this trifecta.

Wings Over America Daily Double - #1: In the spring of 1976, Paul McCartney, with his new band Wings, toured the United States for the first time since the Beatles last show in San Francisco in 1966. It was a historic event, commemorated afterwards by a then almost unheard of release of a 3 album set called Wings Over America. Wings played 2 nights at Madison Square Garden, on Monday May 24 and Tuesday May 25. I was a junior in high school, so my buddies and I couldn't go - school night! Not that we were all that upset. Rumors abounded that the Beatles were on the verge on re-uniting (it had only been 6 years since the break up), so we figured why see 1/4 of the group when it would just be a matter of time before you could see them in their entirety. As we know, the rumors never came true, and just 4 years later, in 1980, John Lennon was tragically shot and killed. Now looking back, its clear I should have found a way to go as Wings never again toured the US. I missed out on history. Fortunately, I have several high quality bootlegs, not to mention the triple live album, Wings Over America, to help me hear what I missed. This high quality audience recording captures Macca & Wings on May 3, 1976, 42 years ago today in Fort Worth on the opening night of the tour.. Download this one, then come back on May 22 for the 2nd half of this Daily Double

The Airplane 1970 Daily Double - #1: Just two weeks after their April 15, 1970 show at Winterland (go here for that show) the Jefferson Airplane headed to the East Coast for a show at SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island. Believe it or not, Stony Brook was actually Long Island's premier concert venue in the late 60's and early 70's. In addition to The Airplane, The Grateful Dead,The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix and The Who also played Stony Brook. Often, bands would do a show at the college before heading into NY to play at the Fillmore East. For more detail on SUNY Stony Brook's place in rock and roll history, go here. After you're done reading that article, take a moment and download this soundboard of the Airplane from 4 dozen years ago today, May 1, 1970!  Then come back on May 7 for tn3 2nd half of this Daily. Double.
