Black Crowes - 2022-05-04 - Los Angeles, CA (TV SBD)

On May 4, 2022, just a year ago today, the Black Crowes released the disc 1972, a collction of cover songs all originally recorded a half century earlier, hence the title of the recording. That same day, they played a surprose show at the Whiuskey in Los Angeles, as captured in this TV soundboard recording.  The concert opened with all 6 tracks from 1972, followed a series of Blac Crows classics.

As long time readers of this blog know, I've spent numerous posts discussing the Dead's renaissance between 1989 and 1991. The number of official releases from that period is a testament to the caliber of the band's performances in that era, as they include:

• The 2 night stand at RFK Stadium from July 12 and 13, 1989
• the famed Warlock shows in Hampton Virginia on October 8 and 9, 1989

• the Landover, Maryland show on March 15, 1990 
• the Knickerbocker arena run from March 24 to 26, 1990; 
• 2 (yes 2) box sets from Spring 1990, featuring every show from that tour - the only other tour to be released in its entirety besides Europe 1972
• a show from from Mountain View CA from June 16, 1990
• a show from from Pittsburgh from July 8, 1990
• the Madison Square Garden concerts from September 14 to 20, 1990. 
• a show from Paris from October 27, 1990 
• a show from Washington DC from June, 14, 1991
• the Giants Stadium shows from June 16 and 17, 1991
• a show from Pine Knob from June 20, 1991 
• a show from Madison Square Garden from September 10, 1991, featuring Bradford Marsalis

When Sheryl Crow released the album Tuesday Night Music Club in August 1993, it garnered some critical accolades but very little public attention. Crow was featured in Rolling Stone’s “New Faces In Rock” section that year, but neither the album or its initial 2 singles charted. Finally, over a year later, the 3rd single from the disc, All I Wanna Do became a surprise smash hit, climbing to #2 on the Billboard charts and carrying the album to the #3 spot. By 1995, therefore, Sheryl was atop the rock world, the latest female artist to ascend to the throne of Queen of Rock. This soundboard recording captures Sheryl in Sugapore on May 1, 1995, 28 years ago today.

Allman Brothers Band - 1995-05-01 - New Orleans, LA (SBD)

On May 3, 1994, the Allman Brothers released Where It All Begins, their 11th studio album and 3rd since te band reformed in 1990. The new disc included the single No One To Run With, which went to #7 on the Billboard mainstream rock charts. The album also featured Soulshine, written by Warren Haynes, which became one of Warren's signature live tunes, whether playing with the Allmans, Govt Mule or solo. This soundboard recording captures the Allman's just about a year after the release of Where It All Begins, in New Orleans on May 1, 1995, 28 years ago today.
