Plant & Page - 1998-07-14 - Mansfield, MA (SBD) 

Earlier this month , we brought you some Jimmy Page during his time with Led Zeppelin, Today we fast forward years after Led Zep disbanded in 1980 to when Page reunited with Robert Plant from 1994 to 1998. That collaboration produced the the highly successful Unledded album in 1994, and a 1995/1996 world tour. After that tour, the two went back into the studio and recorded another album, entitled Walking Into Clarksdale. The title referred to a town in the Mississippi Delta, a home of Delta blues music that influenced the duo. Released in April 1998, the album went to #8 on the Billboard charts in the US, and climbed all the way to #3 in the UK. Plant and Page went back on tour in support of Walking Into Clarksdale, touring North America and Europe in the Summer and Fall of 1998. At the tour’s end, however, Plant decided he wanted to pursue some new musical directions. He and Page parted on good terms, each to return to his own solo career. This soundboard recording captures the duo on July 14, 1998, 19 years ago today, in Mansfield. Download this one to hear what might be one of the last times the 2 leaders of Led Zep ever tour together.

Rolling Stones - 1975-07-13 - Inglewood, CA (HQ AUD)

The Rolling Stones have gone through quite a few lead guitarists in their 50 plus year history - Brian Jones, Mick Taylor and Ronnie Woods - but through it all, co-founder Keith Richards has remained the rock of the band, his rhythm guitar riffs, inspired by Chuck Berry, anchoring the group's sound. The 2 Rolling Stone lists of the top guitarists firmly recognize Keith's prowess,  ranking him #10 in 2003 and #4 in 2011.  This high quality audience recording - from the legendary taper Mike Millard, also known as Mike The Mic, captures the Stones on July 13, 1975, 42 years ago today, during the first tour featuring the tandem of Richards and Woods on guitar.

B.B. King - 1989-07-13 - Montreux. Switzerland (SBD)

So, you run a blog for 7 1/2 years, you post live shows from hundreds of different artists, and then you go to do a month dedicated to Guitar Gods and realize you've never once posted a concert by the late, great, BB King.  Well, that changes right now. The man nicknamed The King Of The Blues, who called his guitar Lucille, is regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, whatever source you use. The 2003 Rolling Stone list of the greatest guitarists ranked him at #3 while the 2001 list had him at #6. To put that in perspective, only 7 men cracked the to 10 on both lists - King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Chuck Berry and Duane Allman. Guitar Gods indeed! This soundboard captures BB on July 13, 1989, 28 years ago today in Montreux and continues our run this month of featuring some of the legendary blues guitarists of our time.

As promised earlier this month, here's Jerry Garcia doing what he did for 30 years, fronting the Grateful Dead and leading them through 2 sets of music filled with originals and covers, with styles ranging from psychedelia to country to jazz to soul to Americana and more. This soundboard captures the band on July 12, 1990, 27 years ago today, a show Deadbase ranks as one of the 10 best of a year filled with stellar performances - remember the entire Spring 1990 tour has been officially released, not to mention most of the Madison Square Garden run from September 1990. Today's show gives you a wonderful idea of what Garcia was capable of - from the space jams of Dark Star to his best Hendrix impression on Along The Watchtower to a rollicking Bertha to the soulful, mournful finale of The Weight.  Next month will mark 22 years since we lost Jerry, and we Deadheads still miss him every day. Another Guitar God playing for heaven's rock and roll band.

From founder Duane Allman to Dickey Betts to Warren Haynes to Derek Trucks, the Allman's have fielded a hall of fame's worth of Guitar Gods, each and every one of which will feature at some point this month. This soundboard recording captures the band with Dickey Betts on lead guitar on July 12, 1986, 31 years ago today. By the way, all of our Allman Brother's Band posts are dedicated to the late great leader of the band, the one and only Greg Allman.

As we discussed when we announced this month's theme, we'll be featuring a host of legendary blues guitarists who clearly qualify as Guitar Gods. The  late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan is right near the top of that list. Both Rolling Stone's 2003 and 2011 rankings of the best guitarists of all time prominently recognized SRV,  listing him at #7 and #12, respectively. This soundboard recording captures SRV in Toronto on July 11, 1983, 34 years ago today.
