Tom Jones & Van Morrison 2016 - #1:  In the past, we have most certainly used an early/late show combination by an artist as 2 entries in a Same Tour, Different show set.  This is the first time, however, that we've used an opening act and headliner on the same night to make up such a set. In October 2016, Tom Jones and Van Morrison joined forces for a brief tour, with Tom opening each night and Van closing the show. During Tom's set, Van joined him for a few songs, and vice versa. The two, according to Tom, are long time friends from the 1960s, when they were the odd men out during the British Invasion, with Tom being from Wales and Van from Ireland. They are also 2 of the most distinctive voices in rock history.  This high quality audience recording captures Tom's set at the Hollywood Bowl on October 13, 2016, just a year ago today.  Download this one, then come back in a few hours for Van's set.

Neil Young - 2012-10-13 - Austin, TX (FM)

Neil Young 2012 - #1:  In 2003, Neil recorded the album Greendale, with Crazy Horse, then went 9 years before returning to the studio with his long time backing band.  So, what did Neil do to make up for  that almost decade long separation from the Horse?  Well, he recorded 2 albums with them! In June, Neil &  Crazy Horse released Americana, featuring their unique take on folk standards such as Clementine and Oh Susannah.  Then,on October 30, Neil and the Horse released Psychedelic Pill, a double CD filled with songs featuring extended jams. This FM Broadcast captures Neil and Crazy Horse in Austin, on October 13. 2012, 5 years ago today, playing a set highlighting songs from  the 2nd of their 2012 discs.  Download this one, then come back on October 26, for the 2nd half of this Same Tour, Different Show set.

Bruce Hornsby 2009 - #1: I happened to catch Bruce Hornsby’s 2009 fall tour on October 24 at Town Hall in New York. And that show prompted the following question - is it possible for a memorable concert moment take place outside the concert hall with no music playing? Well, my answer to that question is a resounding yes! My wife and I saw Bruce Hornsby on October 24, 2009, at Town Hall in solid show by Bruce and the Noisemakers. After the show, as we pulled our car out of the parking lot and headed for home, we drove past the theater. Standing outside was the band - no Hornsby - but all the Noisemakers. I rolled down the window and yelled "you guys were great tonight". And the next thing I knew, the entire band came over to the car. The were shaking my hand, chatting with my wife and I, and thanking us for attending the show. Horns were honking, lights were flashing and we ignored it all , chatting away with with the Noisemakers. We held up traffic on 43rd street, just a block from Times Square for over 5 minutes. Only in New York! This soundboard recording captures Hornsby and the Noisemakers a few weeks later, on November 11, 2009, 8 years ago today. Rolling Stones 1994 - #1: On August 1, 1994, the Rolling Stones launched their Voodoo Lounge Tour, in support of the album of the same name. The tour would last a year and a month, and visit 6 of the 7 continents! This was the band’s first tour without original bassist Bill Wyman, who was replaced by Darryl Jones. The tour grossed $320 million, becoming the highest grossing tour of any artist at that time. The album, released on July 11, 1994, went to #2 on the Billboard charts and sold over 2 million copies. In addition, it would go on to win the Grammy for best Rock album. Despite that success, Voodoo Lounge became the first Stone’s disc not to produce a top 40 single in the US (although 4 did hit the top 40 in the UK). This soundboard recording captures the Stones on the first leg of the Voodoo Lounge Tour, at the Superdome in New Orleans on October 10, 1994, 23 years ago today. John Hiatt - 1987-10-10 - Bremen Germany (FM)

John Hiatt 1987 - #1: On May 29, 1987, John Hiatt released the album Bring The Family, and quickly became an “overnight sensation”. Of course, earning that label was 13 years and 7 prior albums in the making. In fact, when Hiatt recorded Bring The Family, he was actually on the verge of quitting the business, having recently been dropped by his record label. Hiatt, with encouragement from John Chelew of McCabe's Guitar Shop who had heard some of the early versions of tunes that wound up on the album, decided to take one more crack at recording. Demon Records in the UK put up about $30,000 to help Hiatt record an album. Then old friends, Nick Lowe, Ry Cooder and Jim Keltner joined Hiatt in the studio. Due to budget constraints, the entire record had to be recorded in just 4 days. Hiatt and Lowe actually shared a hotel room at a local Holiday Inn to save money (Lowe, by the way, took no payment for his contribution). The result - Bring The Family became one of the cornerstones of Hiatt’s career, featuring songs such as Memphis in the Meantime, Thing Called Love, Lipstick Sunset Have a Little Faith in Me, Thank You Girl and Learning How to Love You.
