The 2000 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class, the 15th group of inductees, featured James Taylor, Earth, Wind &Fire, Bonnie Raitt, the Lovin' Spoonful and Eric Clapton.  EC became the only man inducted into Hall on 3 occasions, having previously been enshrined with The Yardbirds in  1992 and Cream in 1993.  Of course, a case could be made that 3 other groups featuring Clapton - John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Derek & The Dominos and Blind Faioth - also deserve a place in the Hall!  In any event, this soundboard recording captures EC at the induction ceremony in New York on March 6, 2000, 19 years ago today, playing 2 of his own tunes, then backing the other inductees during their performances.

In 1973, Billy Joel released his 2nd album, Piano Man, which climbed into the Top 30 on the Billboard charts. The title track had similar success on the singles charts, while the tune, Captain Jack, became a staple on FM radio. Over the next 3 years, however, Joel bounced back and forth between New York and Los Angeles, struggling to match the success of Piano Man.  His 1976 album Turnstiles, despite containing tunes that today are considered classics, such as Miami 2017, New York State of Mind, Summer Highland Falls, Say Goodbye to Hollywood and Prelude > Angry Young Man, failed to crack the top 100 on the Billboard charts. No one could have expected, therefore, what transpired when Joel released the album The Stranger, in September 1977. The disc went to #2 on the US charts, and sold over 10 million copies, becoming Columbia Records largest selling album up to that time. The album yielded 4 top 25 singles, Just the Way You Are  at #3, Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) at #17, Only the Good Die Young" at #24, and "She's Always a Woman at #17. The album also featured the tune Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, which received major airplay on FM stations. This FM broadcast captures Billy Joel soon after the release of The Stranger, on March 5, 1978, 41 years ago today, in the Netherlands.  Download this one to hear Joel on tour in support of the album that made him a world wide rock star.

Jimmy Buffett - 1999-03-04 -Orlando, FL  (FM)

As the 20th century came to a close, Jimmy Buffett had become far more than a musician. He was an entire industry. Under the Margaritaville brand name, he had launched stores, restaurants, liquors and record companies; just to name a few of his ventures. This FM broadcast from March 4, 1999, 2 decades ago today, exemplifies juts how Buffett has blended his music with his business ventures. A month prior to this concert, Jimmy opened a Matagritaville restaurant in Orlando. The same day as this show he launched Radio Margaritaville, a 24 by 7 streaming station that also can be heard on Sirius XM radio. To commemorate (and promote!) the 2 business endeavors, Jimmy played this show at the restaurant accompanied by a live broadcast on the new station! Only thing left to do is open up a Landshark while you listen!

The disc includes the track 50,000, written the week of Prince's death, which pay's tribute to the Purple Rain composer as well as several other musicians who died in late 2015 and 2016 - David Bowie, Glenn Frey, & Lemmy.  The disc went to #9 on the US Billboard charts and to #15 in the UK,  Sting went on tour in support of the album in early 2017, playing almost 40 shows in the US and Europe.  This FM broadcast captures a portion of his show in Chicago during that tour, on March 3, 2017, just 2 years ago today.
