Elton John 1975 - Back To Back - #1: On August 15, 1976, I saw Elton John live at Madison Square Garden during his Louder Than The Concorde Tour, an amazing night of music that served as the inspiration for my self published Book, Ten Rules Of The Road I Learned at My First Concert (buy it here). A year earlier, Elton played a series of shows in the Pacific Northwest and Mountain time zones in the US, a run aptly named West of The Rockies, referring both to the geography of the tour and his most recent album, Rock Of The Westies! This excellent audience recording (given its age)  captures Elton's 27 song, 2 set performance in Seattle on October 16, 1975, 46 years ago today. Grateful Dead - 1976-10-14 - Los Angeles, CA (Ex Aud + SBD)

GD 1976 - Back To Back - #1:  In October 1974, the Grateful Dead played their "farewell concerts" at Winterland in San Francisco, 5 nights of impassioned music that many Dead Heads thought might be the last tine they would see their beloved band. The band taped the shows for a live album (the double disc Steal Your Face, which hardly did justice to their performances) and a full length movie (The Grateful Dead movie, which was a far more fitting monument to those 5 concerts). While the Dead stayed away from touring in 1975, playing only 4 shows, the band members were busy with a host of other projects. They recorded the album Blues for Allah, which included The Music Never Stopped and the Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower segue. Jerry Garcia recorded the album Reflections, and toured with his own band, while Bob Weir joined up with the band, Kingfish. Garcia also spent countless hours directing production of the aforementioned Grateful Dead movie, which was released to critical acclaim in 1977. Phil Lesh, along with keyboardist Ned Lagin, released an album of improvisational electronic music, titled Seastones. While the band members kept busy, they all knew that nothing was as fulfilling as playing live. So in June 1976, the band launched their first tour in over 19 months and Dead Heads rejoiced.  This excellent audience (1st set) and soundboard (2nd set & encore) recording captures the Dead daring the fall of their comeback year, in Los Angeles on October 15 1976, 45 years ago today. These 1976 shows set the stage for the following year, which many Dead heads feel was the best in the band's long strange trip. Page & The Crowes 1999 - Back To Back - #1: In October 1999, Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes teamed up for 6 shows, 3 in New York City. 1 in Worcester, MA and 2 in Los Angeles.  Each night's set list featured a mix of Led Zep and Black Crowes tunes. The LA shows yield a live album entitled, Live At The Greek. Unfortunately, due to contractual issues, the album could not include any Black Crowes material.  The October shows were so successful that Page and the Crowes went on tour together from June to October 2000.  This soundboard recording captures the 2nd night in New York on October 13, 1999, 22 years ago today.
