On October 19, 1979, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers released their breakthrough album, Damn The Torpedoes. The disc climbed to #2 on the Billboard charts, where it stayed for 7 weeks, with the only thing preventing it from reaching the top spot being Pink Floyd’s monumental album The Wall. The album yielded two top 15 singles, Don't Do Me Like That which reached #10 and Refugee at #15. The album also contained soon to be FM radio favorites Here Comes My Girl, Even the Losers and Louisiana Rain. This FM broadcast captures Petty in the UK on tour in support of Damn The Torpedoes on March 6 1980, 3 dozen years ago today. By the way, stop back tomorrow and we'll have another one from this tour!

thanks for Tom Petty Speedy one of the last remaining legends,still puts on a great showeven after 40 years RIP Howie Epstein 13 years since you left us Your beautiful harmonies with Tom were stuff of legend ,you are loved and truly missed brother and will always be remembered

Thanks for Tom Petty great show, also remembering Howie Epstein ,hard to believe its been about 13 years since he left us,had many drug and personal issues but when he was with Tom it was magic both on stage and in the studio. The harmonies between Tom and Howie were a thing of Beauty, as Tom said .he could sing like a bird.R.I.P Howie you are remembered and truly missed
