2010s - #1: Both John Fogerty and Brad Paisley have been long time supporters of America's Vetrans, imploring folks in both word and song not to forget those folks who put their lives on the line for our freedom.  The two teamed up a tribute to our veterans on November 6, 2017, 3 years ago today, in Los Angeles.  The show took place, appropriately, aboard the Battleship Iowa, now a floating museum, and was broadcast as part of Jimmy Kimmel's concert series.

2000s -#2: In October 2007, Neil Young launched his 2007 Chrome Dreams Continental Tour, in support of  his Chrome Dreams II album. That disc was a follow up to his 1977 Chrome Dreams album. Just one slight catch - the original Chrome Dreams album was never released!  Neil scrapped that disc in favor of releasing the album American Stars & Bars. Many tracks scheduled for Chrome Dreams eventually showed up on American Stars & Bars as well as on Rust Never Sleeps.  In any event, this excellent audience recording captures Neil in Denver during that tour on November 5, 2007, 13 years ago today.

1990s - #1: After spending most of 1998 on the road touring behind the the album Pilgrim, Eric Clapton took the first 10 months of 1999 off. He was spent from the tour, especially the emotional nature of songs from the album that dealt with the tragic, accidental death of his 4year old son, Connor. When he finally went back out on the road in late 1990, he headed to Japan, where in played a 14 night rum visiting 5 different cities. This soundboard recording captured EC rehearsing for that tour, in Los Angeles on November 4, 1999, 21 years ago today.

1970s - #1: For a band that released only one album, Seconds of Pleasure, Rockpile has an amazing legacy. What many folks don't know is that songs like Cruel to Be Kind, credited to Nick Lowe, and Girls Talk, credited to Dave Edmunds, were really recorded while they were working together as Rockpile! Because the two were on different labels, however, they could not credit the band! Moreover, it’s a bit strange, to say the least, that an English group that started as a new wave band also was known for its strong rockabilly influences. Unfortunately, Rockpile had a short lived career as tensions between Lowe and Edmunds split the band apart in the early 1980s. This FM broadcast brings you some early Rockpile, from College Park on November 3, 1978, 42 years ago today.

Grateful Dead - 1985-11-02 - Richmond, VA (SBD) 

1980s - #2: In 1985, The Grateful Dead celebrated 20 years together, dating back to their early days as the Warlocks. Dead Heads tend to passionately debate the quality of the music that year. Some feel that the band, inspired by their milestone anniversary, played their best shows of the 1980s, especially during the Spring tour. Others don't believe the music was much different from the prior years, and certainly not up to the standard of 1980, 1982 or 1989. Moreover, the 2nd half of 1985 was difficult period for the band, as Jerry Garcia’s heroin addiction began to consume the guitarist. Yet, even that period had its high points, as the November 1, 1985 show from Richmond, has been officially released. This soundboard recording captures the Dead the next night, also in Richmond, on November 7, 1985, 35 years ago today. In any event, take a listen and make up your own mind,

Bobby & The Midnites - 1980-11-01 - Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ (SBD)

1980s - #1; Bob Weir’s solo efforts have included successful stints with Kingfish along with a wonderful pairing with bassist Rob Wasserman in Ratdog. A somewhat unusual chapter, however, was written in the early 1980s when he fronted Bobby & The Midnites. The Midnites originally included Brent Mydland of the Grateful Dead on keyboards, Matthew Kelly from Kingfish on guitar, Bobby Cochran from Steppenwolf on guitar, Tim Bogert from the Vanilla Fudge on bass and Billy Cobham, who had played with Miles Davis, on drums. Despite the star studded lineup, their self titled debut album made little commercial or critical impact. In 1982, Kelly, Mydland and Bogert left the band. Weir recruited Alphonso Johnson of Weather Report to take over on bass and added Dave Garland on keyboards. That lineup lasted until March 1983. This FM broadcast, from November 1, 1980, 4 decades ago today, captures the original ine up of The Midnites!
