1979 - On October 2, 1979, Bob Marley released the album Survival, a disc filled with songs dealing with the theme of African unity. The title might have also been a reflection of his own life, as in 1976 he survived a gunshot attack at his home in Jamaica. He was also fighting cancer, which had begun in his foot and was slowly spreading to the rest of his body. That disease would claim his life on May 11, 1981. This soundboard recording captures Marley on December 15, 1979, 43 years ago today, in Nassau in the Bahamas, where he had spent 2 years in self imposed exile after the attempt on his life.
