EC 1975 #1: In March 1975, Clapton had released the album There’s One in Every Crowd, the follow up to his chart topping disc 461 Ocean Boulevard. Unfortunately, EC’s growing dependence on alcohol made recording the album difficult. As a result, There’s One in Every Crowd didn’t match the quality of its predecessor. The disc only rose to #21 in the Billboard album charts and failed to yield any singles that charted. Despite the album’s lack of commercial success, EC spent most of the year on the road in support of it. He spent April in Australia, his first trip to the Land Down Under, and October in Japan, in between touring the US from June to August. This soundboard recording captures EC on August 174, 1975, 4 decades ago this very day. Download thisone, then stop back on August 17 for part 2 of this Double Shot.
