Our decison to honor The Band this month, alongsiode the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brohers, is now a way to pay tribute to the life and kegacy of the great Robbie Robertson, who passed away yesterday. And it is 28 years since Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Desd passed on August 9, 1995. A sad day indeed.
Unfortunately, the list of rock legends from the 1960s and 1970s who are no longer with us continues to grow. As the song says, "if there's a rock and roll heaven, well you know they have a hell of a hell of a band."

Great post. Having sites like this to commiserate about the passing of these legendary, Mount Rushmore-type music figures sure helps.
The article you linked to is the most comprehensive one I've read, so thank you. So fortunate you were already posting/linking to the Band this month. Robbie was one of the most influential guitarists and song writers of our time and will be deeply missed. How poignant for it to happen on the same day we lost Jerry so many years ago. Looking forward to your upcoming posts this months. Your music shares are just so relevant at moments like these.
@Alan - thanks for the kind words. I plan my monthly themes 2 to 3 months in advance so that I had The Band on tap for this month isone incredie coincidence. Not quite as big a coincidence though as Robbie and Jerry passing on the same day, 28 years apart
