Grateful Dead - 1970-01-30 - New Orleans, LA (SBD)

GD 1970 - Back to Back - #1: On January 31, 1970, upon returning to their hotel in New Orleans after a concert at The Warehouse with Fleetwood Mac, the Grateful Dead were greeted with an unpleasant surprise. The police, search warrants in hand, were waiting for the band and arrested them for possession of illegal drugs. As Jerry Garcia put it  "the southern cops, they had just what they wanted: hippies. Oh, boy.”  The incident would inspire a legendary verse in the tune Truckin' - "busted, down on Bourbon Street, Set up, like a bowlin’ pin, Knocked down, it gets to wearin’ thin, they just won't let you be, oh no".  Fortunately, no one in the band stayed in jail long, as the Dead were back on stage at The Warehouse the next night, playing a concert billed as a benefit to raise funds for their legal defense.
