The Airplane 1966 - Back To Back - #1: It’s hard to think about the Jefferson Airplane with out visualizing Grace Slick out front of the band, the strong female lead singer embodying the new freedoms women were seeking as a cultural revolution swept across the US in the late 1960s. Grace’s powerful voice helped propel songs such as White Rabbit and Somebody To Love into the Billboard Top 10. Yet, before Grace, there was Singe. Signe Toly Anderson, the original female vocalist of the Jefferson Airplane. Signe left the band in October 1966, a few months after the birth of her daughter. Her last show was October 16. The next night Grace Slick took the stage with the Airplane, and the rest, as they say. is history. This soundboard recording captures the Airplane with Signe still on vocals in Vancouver on January 14, 1966, 59 years ago today, Download this one, then comeback tomorrow for part 2 of this Back To Back set.
