On June 7, 8 and 9, 1977, The Grateful Dead capped their near perfect spring tour, truly one of the peak periods in the band's long strange trip, with 3 majestic performances at Winterland in San Francisco. Less than 2 weeks later, the band had to put their tour plans for the summer on hold when Mickey Hart was involved in a car crash in which he broke multiple bones. Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia used that time off to begin work on solo albums, Heaven Help the Fool and Cats Under the Stars, respectively, which would be released in 1978. Garcia took to the road as well, playing about 20 concerts in New York, New Jersey and California between July 1 and August 12. This soundboard recording captures the Jerry Garcia Band's 2nd set on August 6, 1977, 48 years ago today, at the Keystone in Berkeley, one of their favorite venues. Jerry picked up right where the Dead left off, continuing to play as well and as inspired as at any point in his career. Less than a month later, I would see the Grateful Dead for the first time, for the band's first show since Mickey's accident, the legendary Englishtown NJ concert in front of a crowd of close to 150,000! NOTE: got some comments that there were some sound issues, which may have been related to the conversion from FLAC to mp3. So I re-downloaded the original FLAC files, re-converetd them, and put up a new link as 8:15 pm on August 6. So you can try downloading again.
