In 1999, after a long, 11 year separation, Bruce Springsteen, decided, to paraphrase the immortal words of John Belushi in The Blue Brothers, to put the band back back together. The Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band reunion tour launched in April 1999 and stretched until July 2000. On highpoint of the tour was a record sold-out, 15-show run at Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. Another was a 10-night, sold-out engagement at New York City's Madison Square Garden, including this show from 16 years ago today on June 15, 2000. At key points in each show, usually during Tenth Avenue Freezeout and his newest song, Land of Hope and Dreams, Springsteen played the role of preacher, calling on his disciples in the crowd to feel the healing power of the Ministry of Rock and Roll. Another special moment each night occurred during If I Should Fall Behind, a song written while Springsteen was away from the E Street band. With the band reunited, the song became a vow of togetherness, with Springsteen, wife Patti Scialfa, Steve Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, and The Big Man, Clarence Clemons each singing a verse, promising to wait for each other. A run of twenty-five shows (in a sports arena) in a single city on a single tour borders on the inconceivable.
If one may ask, what do the acronyms "IEM" and "ALD" stand for in relation to matrix recordings?
IEM stands for inner ear monitor. Its a feed from the soundboard to the ear monitor worm by one of the performers on stage.
ALD stands fro assisted listening device. Its a deice used by folks with a hearing disorder to hear the concert. Its also is usually a feed off the soundboard.
Matrix is a recording that blends multiple sources , such as a soundboard and audience mix.
