Eric Clapton is the only musician who has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on 3 occaisions. EC was inducted as a solo artist, as a member of Cream, and for his work with The Yardbirds. Who knows - he may eventuallly get in 3 more times if the Hall ever chooses to honor Derek & The Dominoes, Blind Faith and John Mayall's Bliesbreakers.
In any event, this soundboard recording captures Clapton during the first show of is 1979 tour, in Ireland on March 8, 1979, 45 years ago today. EC was on the road in support of the album Backless, which had been released in November 1978. The disc climbed to #8 on the Billboard charts. The single from the album, Promises, reached the #9 position. The album also contained the tune Tulsa Time, as well as 2 tunes from Bob Dylan, Walk Out In The Rain and If I Don’t Be There By Morning.

Thanks for mentioning John Mayall. I think he is the single most overlooked artist who belongs in the R&R Hall of Fame. His early Bluesbreakers included Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor, three guitar gods. He's the godfather of British blues and has been making great music for over 60 years (he started in the early 60's and his most recent record was in 2022). He turned 90 years old last November! He's got my vote!
