On June 29, 1984, Bruce Springsteen launched the Born In The USA tour in support of the album of the same name, a 156 show extravaganza that ran until October 5, 1985. The album went to #1 on the Billboard charts and stayed in the top 10 for the duration if the entire tour. Robert Christgau gave the album an A+ grade, ranking it as the best disc of 1984. Rolling Stone gave it a 5 star review, and would eventually rank it as #85 on its list of the 500 best albums of all time. The video for Dancing In The Dark, the first single from the album, received extensive airplay on MTv which helped propel it to the #2 position on the Billboard singles charts. In all, the album would yield seven top 10 singles. The tour, which featured Nils Lofgren on guitar in place of Miami Steve Van Zandt, who had left the E-Street Band to pursue a solo career. The 1985 portion of the tour saw Springsteen visit Asia, Australia and Europe, before returning to the US to play his first American outdoor stadium shows, including the first 6 shows at Giants Stadium in his home state of New Jersey.
