Grateful Dead 1988 - Same Tour, Different Show Double Play - #1:  Certain years in Grateful Dead history have moments that immediately come to mind. For example, in 1987, Gracia made his trumphant return from a diabetic coma, the band released In The Dark, the Touch of Grey video took over MTv, the Dead toured with Dylan, and the band played a show for the ages at Madison Square Garden on 9/18/87. In 1989, moments like the Formerly The Warlock shows in Hampton, the entire summer run, and The Nightfall of Diamonds concert on 10/16/1989 all spring to mind, not to mention Garcia's fall solo tour featuring Clarence Clemons.  And then there's 1988. That year seems to get lost between the other 2 that sandwiched it.  I saw the band 8 times that year, all at MSG.  None of those concerts would rank in the top 10 I ever saw, but none were anywhere near the bottom of my list.  Each and every one was a solid, well played show, building on the emotional moments from 1987, and setting the stage for the mammoth 1989 to 1991 run. It's a sadly underappreciated year that doesn't get enough attention..
