Bruce Hornsby 1999 - Same Tour, Different Show Double Play - #1: On April 12, 1999, I saw one of my favorite concerts - Bruce Hornsby at the Morristown Performing Arts Center. With just over 1000 seats, the MPAC is the perfect place for a show. Hornsby was in excellent form, combining his own material with a host of wonderful covers, including Girl from North Country, Madman Across The Water, Tupeluo Honey and Franklin’s Tower. My lovely bride was pregnant at the time with my twin boys, so I always tell them it was their first concert! You can find that show here! This soundboard recording from April 1, 1999, 2dozen years ago today, is from just about 2 weeks prior to when Hornsby played Morristown. Of course, Hornsby learned his lessons well while playing with the Dead, so no two shows of his are alike. That said, even though this performance from Williamsburg includes very few of the songs he played in Morristown, it still showcases Hornsby’s tremendous piano playing and improvisational skills.
