The King 1976 - Back To Back - #1:In March 1976, Elvis Presely launched his Bicentenial Tour, in honor of America's upcoming 200th birthday on July 4, complete with a special jumpsuit designed to commemorate the historic occaision. Presley's tour would criss cross the country, taking occaisional breaks for his annual residencies in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. The schedule would have taken its toll on a healthy man half The King's age. But Elvis was 41, overweight, suffering from depression, dealing with legal issues, stressed by relationship problems, and hopelessly addicted to drugs. As a result, some nights on tour, he was still, in the words of the Kansas City Star "one of the most charismatic entertainers in America" while on others, "it was like watching a parody of a dying legend", in the words of reviewer Denise Kusel. This soundboard recording captures Elvis during that difficult tour, in Tucson, on June 1, 1976, 4 dozen years ago today.
