2020s - #4: In 2024, Elton John and Bernie Taupin were awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, given to composers or performers for their lifetime contributions to popular music. Prior winners at that point included Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Hal David, Burth Bacharach, Carole King, Billy Joel, Smokey Robinson, and Willie Nelson.
