1960s - #5: In September 1966, Jimi Hendrix, who had been struggling to find any musical success in the US, moved to London hoping new manager Chas Chandler could help him breakthrough. Chandler recruited Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience was born. Hendrix played his way through the club scene in Europe, dazzling audiences and  felow musicians, such as Clapton, McCartney and Lennon, alike. By December 29, Jimi's version of Hey Joe had entered the UK charts, and would eventually peak at #6.  Success in the US would have to wait until after his incendiary (in more ways than one since he lit his guitar on fire) in June at Monterrey Pop, but Hendrix had arrived.  This FM broadcast captures him right as about the time Hey Joe was climbing the UK charts, on the January 30, 1967, 52 years ago today.
