On this historic day, when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been recognized as the winners of the US Presidential election, it seems poetic that the state of Pennsylvania, home of the city of Philadelphia where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed, clinched their victory. As we peacefully transition power once again, as we have done in every election since the birth of this nation, may we all find a way to put aside the hurtful rhetoric, may we look to find common ground to address the issues within our country, and may we heal this nation and our souls. May we remember that we are all Americans and that when we unite for the common good, we are capable of overcoming any and every challenge in our path. And may we never forget, that character matters as Van Jones pointed out in this emotional video; that honesty, integrity, inclusiveness, empathy, hard work, compassion and caring - values my wife and I have tried to pass on to our kids - are the hallmarks of what makes this country great. And since this is first and foremost a music blog, I couldn't think of any other song to better exemplify the American spirit and resilience than the version of America sung by the one and only Ray Charles. God bless America.

Thank God we've made it through this election with an outcome that favors the very things that truly make this country great..respect for the freedoms of all, fair justice for all, the right to vote for all and making that right easily accessible for all, an equal chance for all to achieve the American Dream, the open arms that receives poor immigrants like all of our ancestors.
As I was watching the footage of all the different people dancing in the streets all over the country I saw something that I paused and rewound to watch again. There was a young black man waving a Bidon/Harris sign. An older man in a MAGA hat kept tapping his shoulder. When the young Bidon supporter turned around the older man in the MAGA hat opened his arms motioning, the 2 hugged for for a moment then went on celebrating together. I didn't catch what city it was in but that moment gives me hope that we as a country will come together again, slowly maybe, like an arguing family always does. That is the image of this moment in time that I hope to carry with me.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. The time has come to put the hate aside - on both sides of the political spectrum. One person complained that he's tired of being called a racist and a fascist for supporting Trump. Well, I'm dammed tired of being called socialist and communist for supporting a Biden. Name calling and hate doesn't solve issues - never has, never will.
It's also time to retire expressions like FAKE NEWS and alternative facts that undermine the legitimacy if the free press and make fact based discussion impossible. Moving forward requires compromise - on both sides of the aisle. I was taught a long time ago, you know you have a good, fair deal when both sides walk away complaining they didn't get everything they wanted - that means both sides compromised.
Our new president has asked us all to come together to try to solve problems as Americans - not as democrats of republicans, not as blue states or red states. For the sake of this great nation, I think we should heed that call.
Fine sentiments, Speedy. Let's return to a place where truth and integrity have meaning again.
The challenges ahead, to all humanity, will take the best of us, and the best in us, to meet.
It feels like we MAY have a chance, now. But it must be ensured that we never come that close to fascism again.

@howlingwilf - well spoken my good friend. Democracy, both here in the US and around the world, is fragile You see how close we in America allowed a man with no redeeming qualities to almost steal it from us. We must always be on our guard and never take it for granted.
By the way - when I ask both sides to compromise, I do not in any way mean that fundamental human rights should ever be compromised. All people in this country - regardless of race, gender orientation, ethnicity, etc - are entitled to and deserve basic human rights of freedom, liberty, equality, decency, employment,and more. To paraphrase our Declaration of independence -We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all PEOPLE are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Thank you, I sooo agree! We need to turn this page of hatred, intolerance, un-acceptance, divisiveness and just plane not being civil to one another. Unfortunately this administration, this president and those who allowed this happen, have set the US back decades. There's a lot of work to be done and both sides need to come together.
