M&C 1978 - Back To Back - #1: The 1970s was a time of transformation in rock music. Not only did new genres of music, such as Punk and New Wave, emerge and flourish, but also long time bands reinvented themselves. The Jefferson Airplane, for example, became The Jefferson Starship. Fleetwood Mac transformed from a blues band to becoming one of the founders of the album oriented rock sound. The Bee Gees abandoned pop music to become leaders of the disco nation. While their change may not have been as dramatic as the 3 just mentioned, the Byrds also evolved during the late 1970s. After the band broke up in 1973, former members worked on and off with each other throughout the rest of the decade. In 1979, 3 of them, McGuinn, Clark and Hillman formally reunited to record an album and tour. The seeds of that partnership were sown in early 1978, when McGuinn and Clark played a series of acoustic shows together at small venues. Thi soundboard recording captures the duo during the early show at The Bottom Line on March 19, 1978, 47 years ago today.
