I saw the Allman Brothers live twice - once in July 1979 right before their early 1980s break up and then again in October 1986 at the Crackdown on Crack concert with CSN and Santana. Both shows were at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, neither show found the band in peak form.

Today's post goes back to 1990s, when the Allman Brothers, who had disbanded in 1982, once again revived their career. The Allmans reformed in 1989, as the success of Greg Allman’s tune I’m No Angel, coupled with the release of the Dreams box set to commemorate the group’s 20th anniversary, generated renewed public interest in the band. Original members Allman, Dickey Betts, Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson and Butch Trucks were joined by new members Warren Haynes, Johnny Neel and Allen Wood, infusing the band with additional energy. Moreover, Betts and Haynes gave the band a dynamic one two punch on guitar, reminiscent of the glory days of the early 1970s. This soundboard recording captures the band on August 3, 1993, 33 years ago today. Download this one to hear the Allman Brothers regain their place as one of the finest live bands of the rock era.

Thanks for the kind words!

Sorry - I don't have any of those. I'd suggest trying the guitars101.com site to see if you can find them there.

wonderful blog speedy, I'm a big late 60s early 70s Neil Diamond fan, hardly ever see any boots of his shows, do you know why that is? He has toured constantly since the late 60s and had many top ten hits from say 67 thru 72, Sweet Caroline, Holly Holy, Cracklin Rosie, song sung blue just to name a few. He's still touring today although after the album Moods around 72 or so he became more of a crooner and lost me somewhat, but the stuff he was putting out moods and before was great, Have the live album hot august night from 72 and it was great, would appreciate some feedback, also love leonard cohen thanks so much

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, there are just not a lot of Neil Diamond bootlegs around, especially from the 1970s. But if you come back later this month, you just may find something you'll enjoy that's related to Hot August Night!

I was able to find a Neil Diamond boot, Seattle 7/23/1972 which was about a month before the live album hot august night was recorded at the greek theatre in LA. Great audience recording, very clear, guitars 101 had it. has a few songs not on the official which is great. It seems like some artists are ignored in the bootleg world for some reason, Neil, Joni Mitchell, Moody Blues ecc do you know why this is? while others Stones, Dylan, Led Zep ,The who ecc, It seem as though every show they ever did is available in one form or another. love them all too but just wish certain other artists had more stuff to download . thanks

Sorry - not really sure why for some artists you can find tons of boots and for others you can't. maybe some of our reegular visitors have some ideas.

To anonymous and the scarcity of some artists on boots - it may be a combination of reasons. For one, some artists control access to their live music tighter than others, making soundboard recordings, at least, more scarce. Also, some artists are huge, but may not inspire the minute-to-minute adoration of Dylan, Zep, etc

But as for Neil, keep looking if you want boots of him; my gosh, he is very well-documented, actually! :)

Thank s, have found two good boots by Neil Diamond, seattle 1972, great sounding audience recording also a 1976 radio show from austrailia, but that's it for the 70s which is really the time period im into, if anyone knows where I can find more late 60s early 70s Neil would be thankful.

The Moody Blues are another band that gets no respect in the bootleg world, while there are quite a few excellent sounding shows, most are from their later years, hardly any from theirprime in the late 60s thru early 70s ,why is this? have 3 shows from that time period, Boston 1970, Detroit 1971 and Louisville 1973, all average sounding audience recordings also all great performances which makes the poor sound all the more frustrating, Oh I did forget I have a great sounding soundboard from Amsterdam from 1972, the problem is it is a partial show half the songs are missing, apparently it was once broadcast in its entirety on the radio,
it has the best live version of nights in white satin I've ever heard. If anyone knows where I can download that complete show ,would be very grateful

Add Grand Funk Railroad to the list of ignored great live bands, for a band that toured nonstop in the late 60s thru the mid 70s there are hardly any good sounding boots and this is a band that made its reputation by giving great kick ass live shows . Also ignored is the soft rock group David Gates and Bread, lots of hits in the early 70s, their ballads could literally bring even the most insensitive person to tears. Actually they could really rock out live, that combined with their ballads thrown in made for a great live show saw them back in 72, one of the best shows ive ever seen, also they toured a lo back then which makes the lack of bootlegs puzzling

Speedy, thanks so much for this show. I caught them four days later at Waterloo Village in Stanhope, NJ. I am almost positive that Dickey does not play on this show. He was temporarily out of the band for a couple months, so the second guitarist is David Grissom. This was his first show filling in for Dickey.
